So.........if this program were to be set up at my high school, I have a few steps for making it a complete and utter joke in a short period of time.
    1. Recruit allies.

    3. Begin making reports at random intervals of time using differnt mediums.
    4. Start having my allies do the same.

I believe, rather, that we will have more control over them than we do our bilogical offspring, as we can write their code as well as control their environment. We will have a much better idea of how do control their environment too (as we will know more about which inputs affect their environment).
That might be the problem in itself. If the advances were made, there is the chance that some misguided soul will build himself an army of killer AI thingies. Granted, that does sound like a bad sci-fi flick (and it is) but it would be possible.

Have you ever cut your fingers up while trying to replace a stubborn CD-ROM drive in a poorly designed computer housing? Try doing that in a G4 case.. you'll never want to go back to evil PC cases again.

I hear about sharp cases all the time, but I have yet to have a problem. Between my three computers (a gateway 486, a mom'n'popshop k6, and my new elan vital t-10ab) and my friends two (a dell xps 300, and an addtronics 6890a) I have yet to cut or even scrape skin. We had replaced half the shit in there before we built him a new computer in an addtronics 6890a case. I never did try to replace the mobo though, maybe that was proprietary. Only thing I did not like was the heatsink on the cpu, but that is easy enough to replace if he ever wants to.

I don't see the benefit of doing something like that when you can just have standard sound from multiple speakers. Just take one speaker and put in on one side of the room and another and the other then you have sterophonic sound. Largely unless the sounds are intensely more complex your mind will associate the sound comming from different sources and allow for the "3d" effect.
Excuse me? You have obviously never played half life with a3d 2.0 and a good set, or even two sets, of speakers. There is a world of difference between a good 3d sound api and plain old stereo.
