But IP owners would have you think otherwise. They want you to think that licenses are akin to the actual CDs that the media came on.
Well no. Software vendors clearly make the distinction that although you own the physical media (CD), you do not own the software. You are granted a license to use the software, subject to various conditions. If you don't agree to the conditions, go somewhere else! Pretty much every EULA makes that distinction.
