    I can remember the doomsday programs on PSB in the early 80's, and also the 'oil glut' only about 10 years ago.

    Still, I'd like to see other sources of cheap, easily managable energy that you can pour, carry in a box, etc.

    Any ham radio types out there with a 'grid dip meter' can easily play the therimin: just tune your ham rig to a frequency that the dipper is on, and wave your hand near the coil. I was doing it last night and it's strangly addictive. There's no volume control like on a real one tho.

    here - they brag about having just one in 8 years. It IS possible to be fairly tight, but Msft has a long history of exploiting the right of not having any legal responsibility for whatever they slop out to customers. Why? They don't have to - it's the default os automatically bundled in with most computers whether the customer wants it or not.

    As a Verizon customer all during the DSL revolution, neither the house I had nor the apartments I'm in now are dsl'able. Both are within 2 miles of a CO but for some reason they don't offer it. I'd sure like to sign up for more reliable / commercial level (run my own web / email / streaming audio / etc ) than what I have with consumer cable, which costs $70 / month, incl. tv which I rarely watch.

    Just slap a CD-R tax on blank media like the Canadians. It's too entrenched to be killed off with a tax like DAT's were. If you think your losing revenue from illegal copying, apply for a share of the CD-R taxes. End Of Problem.
