Securing commercial aircraft is one area where technology can actually deliver. Scanning and sniffing for dangerous materials, coupled with the presence of armed marshals can make aircraft an impossible target for criminals.
The social problems associated with Profiling disapear when every person and every piece of luggage boarding a plane are scrutinized equally.
We live in a transitory period, I believe in a few years such scanning for dangerous materials will be effective and efficient.
Many scanning devices are being tested now, all that remains is the funding and the political will to perfect and implement them.
The planes aren't the problem... its the ports that worry me.

Surely the Parthenon would be grander if those poor workers had All The Facts!
And surely Michelangelo could have lived a longer more productive life, had there been warning labels on that marble he was sculpting, inhaling chemicals Known To The State Of California To Cause Cancer!
I sincerely hope I live to see the big quake hit so I can enjoy the sight of heavy equipment and rescue vehicles being turned back at the border for failing to conform to California's emission requirements.//end rant//
Seriously, does anyone (aside from the morons in the California Legislature) actually think that these stickers will prevent Joe/Jane consumer from just ripping the stickers out of the way and installing the router exactly the way he/she would have anyway(PlugandPlay, no pasword)?
If you plan on having Coin-operated type games, (even using a card reading system) you will be meeting a "Rep" from a certain "trade Association",
In small town USA its no problem, but in the Chicago area those folks still have a presence.
Oh, and if you plan on playing any kind of music for your customers, you will be meeting a "Rep" from another "Trade Asscociation," (this Association will Legally extort you).
Both will demand $$, and you may want to bake that into your budget.
