I don't get to vote on the board. I either get to accept who the CEO has selected, or I can reject, but next to the reject box is something telling me how much money holding an actual election would cost.
Most shareholders have no say in who's in leadership positions in the company. The Board of Directors picks the CEO, and the CEO largely picks the Board.
Policing them will be much harder when criminal charges all have to be tied to a specific person within the corporation rather than the organization as a whole.
The CEO is liable. He's the head of the corporation, he should know what's going on inside, and he should be responsible. Now, if there's other evidence that someone else actually did things which were not under the direction of the higher ups, then the CEO can get off.
You get a short term boost in revenue. That's about it. Also, some ideologically pure sense of government not interfering with business. But as far as useful things go, nothing.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that, since Microsoft had this as a much touted feature of the Zune, they probably have a couple patents on it.
The same word can be given as a trademark for multiple things, as long as a reasonable consumer would not confuse one for the other. A reasonable consumer would not mistake a cell phone for a connectivity technology.
At the same time, I know I wouldn't want them to use my name/company's name on their shitty website. Especially when it makes it look like I approve of a product I've never used.
Are you saying that, instead of my laptop currently having several USB ports, there would just be one LightPeak port on the laptop, which would connect to all of the USB devices? How would that work?
It would be a rare case, but I would say using the laptop on a production shoot, where the laptop would be feeding into a Xstore or other RAID cluster.
I don't think so. I remember there being a "homebrew" crack in the beginning, but then MS drove a dump truck full of money up to the author's house, and it went away.
As far as I know, Apple has the same thing. I don't see why this isn't them just doing the same thing. I don't remember the specifics of why, but I think it has something to do with requiring the OS libraries to then be opened as well.
As a shareholder of Microsoft, I expect it to do everything in its power to generate profit. I expect its CEO to spread FUD against FOSS at every chance, because that's part of his job description. I even expect it to utilize illegeal practices, as long as the expect profit is greater than the cost of settlement.
Yes, I agree with you. However, one must have tolerance before they can have acceptance, and so many people don't have that tolerance, that it would make a good first step.
Nokia has lost the Smartphone market. UNLESS they do Android, and make a phone that is unlocked, easily rootable and with a "we support users not telcos" attitude.
That sort of attitude is kinda what lost them the US smartphone market. While I agree that there is more to the world than America (there's also a decent sized chunk of the world that is Not America), the US smartphone market is quite large.
And let's not get started on Catholic School dress requirements.
Really? I went to Catholic School, and the uniform code there was actually much more relaxed than at some secular private schools. For one, we didn't wear blazers and ties. Just slacks, and either a button down shirt or a polo. Girls had the option of wearing a skirt as well. That's about it.
In the example given, its not the erection itself that is shameful, but rather the perceived trigger for the erection, in this case, the preteen daughter.
Now, if everyone was naked all the time, perhaps people would make the connection that erections happen for any and all reasons, including no reason whatsoever.
Actually, it gives us more license to disparage them for doing these things. We did "Horrible Thing X" many, many years ago. We no longer do it today. However, the record of us doing "Horrible Thing X" is freely available. Now, the people in the other group were also around many, many years ago. Not only are they now guilty of also doing "Horrible Thing X", but they also were given the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. Failing to do that, is even worse.
HTC is also an established brand in the Windows Mobile space. You don't think this announcement, if it gives something special to Nokia, didn't piss them off royally?

Why do those involved with the corporation need additional protecting of their rights? Why do they get more protection than I do?

You Thinkpaddies and your nipple mice.

As opposed to the legacy technology that's still in use by every other company?
Tell me, how is that Microsoft PlaysForSure?

Here's a question: If I were to create something right now, could I still license it under GPLv2 if I wanted? Even though GPLv3 is out?
I don't think so. I remember there being a "homebrew" crack in the beginning, but then MS drove a dump truck full of money up to the author's house, and it went away.
Hey, he's not made of stone!
Wouldn't the LGPL be incompatible if you statically linked the LGPL library in your app, which just about all mobile platforms require you to do?

This is the problem with Capitalism.

For the record I believe in evolution, questioning the bible, and tolerance for everybody, be they black, white, gay, Klingon
Wow. That is beautiful.
or even woman
Now you've gone too far! Burn the heretic!
The shareholders can also vote the Board of Directors out, which is what this plan is asking them to do.
