  1. UK, how is is here - How it will be in the US on Interactive TV - Who Uses it? Who Develops It? · · Score: 1

Well, in the UK you can anything with your tv, shop, bank, you name it. However, the protocalls seem to be controlled by the companies that are providing the service, each one not wanting to tell the other how they are doing it. Soon I hope they will realise that working together is better, but it does not look that way at the moment.

The most promising option looks like cable, all the satelite brodcasting relies on dial-up, same with simple brodcast (aerial on the side of the house, land based transmitters) digital (called ON Digital here). Cable has the option for very high bandwidth, and would be excellent for browsing the net if TV's get better.

I believe what we need is an esd compatiable replacement that will work with alsa, which has to be the next sound standard, and I hope it replacess OSS in 2.5.

As for using OGG Vorbis everywhere, yea, I like the standard, and I want to use it (when it is finished) but for system sounds, have you any idea how much system time that would use, ok, it might be nothing for a PIV-1GHz, but for a P-166 it takes most of the system time to play OGG Vorbis, please don't forget that before moving everything to OGG Vorbis.

Well, I wish that was the case in the UK but it is simply not, I am stuck, I had to drop out of High School before I could finish my Highers (A-Levels for the English) so I cannot get into college, even if I have the ability, because the person who runs the courses did not like me, so he did not let me in. Now I am stuck out of the system, with tallent, but no where to go, and I am going to have to go and burger flip for Ronald McDonald, even if I have all the experence and tallent in the world.

As for the Americans being behind us, if what the man above said is true, about anyone being able to access edcuation then they are light years ahead of us brits.

Why is it that the gov and the courts and everyone else that has been put into power to protect 'us' the people against the evil things in this world never seem to do anything about companies like DC who issue ceast and desist orders at the drop of a hat and will then leave there servers open to attack so that other evil people can get our personal info. I some times think that the police/military/sceret services just sit back and let things happen, and don't do anything until we say something! Just my 0.02c

The people who really need to learn are those in the so called 'real world'. They all need to re-learn the values we all know and love. In the net the values of freedom and privacy, amongst others, are up held, many people work to keep it this way, and I believe the people in the 'real world' should learn from us, and not the other way about. Then again, you might want the net to become another play ground for the rich, where most people are just pawns, like it is in the 'real world'

No, Mozilla does not rule, have you had a look at the size of the thing, IT IS HUGE!!!! There is no reason that a web browser should deal with mail/news/irc/everything!!! Lets not go down the IE route with Mozilla and make it an OS!!!

It has always been said that the next great war will not be one of guns and bombs, but one of information. Well, what I see hapenning is that they are removing our tools to fight, does any one remember why all you Americans have the right to have guns in the first place??? I think that in the same spirit we should have the tools to fight a war of information, but all the big corps are disable all out tools to fight this war, we are not allowed to record information, what next? Well maybe I am just nuts, but this is my two cents.

As for installing new software of windoze machines, I know that if the system is 'stable' then I won't unless I really need to, that is where most windoze problems come from, because every new program just installes it's own versions of system libs (this is one of the major reasons that windoze is so unstable, and why MSCE's can do it right) I think that admin should be for System Admins, and using computers should be for Computer Users, lets not get the two mixed up!
