>There's a whole multi-episode story arc on it...
ISTR Worf mentioned it in TNG too although it was something like 'it's not something we like to talk about'.
They want me to pay $450 for something that will almost certainly force me to upgrade some bits of hardware to give it a chance of running, will potentially fail to run some of my software and in return does what exactly? Look pretty whilst constantly asking me if I'm sure?
Call me negative but I'm not exactly in hurry to join that particular queue.
>Kirk was American. What did you expect?
At least the Enterprise wasn't armed with 'Democracy bombs'.
As an aside, I can highly recommend Shatners last CD, it's actually rather good. None of your 'Mr Tamborine Man' stuff, this is a fine album of poignant songs about life, love and fame. It's worth it just to hear the cover version of Pulp's 'Common People' but the rest, all original material is great.
>a great many people who have probably never seen all of the Original Series
Might not be such a good thing - without the rose tinted specs, the original series was pretty suspect. In the UK, they showed it again after TNG was about 5 years in and we were all pretty steeped in TNG fluffy-trek (I sense you feel sad) with Picard being a nice gentle sort of guy with a tea fixation.
The first episode of TOS they showed (order? we don't need no steenking episode order) had Kirk, McCoy and a bunch of red shirts beam down to a trashed city. They found an old man in the rubble. A really old man, thoroughly dirty & messed up from whatever happened. Kirk Yelled 'What happened?'. He didn't respond, just layed there so Kirk had two redshirts lift him up so Kirk could thump him a few times before asking again 'What happened? Tell me!'. WTF!?!?!
I downloaded a sample CGI demo from some company about 5 years ago that was supposed to be a 'what if' they were doing. It had the TOS titles redone in their entirety in CGI and a separate scene getting similar treatment.
It looked fine but really, why? I LIKE the way the SFX clips of the Enterprise are complete with nose hair, fluff and other sundry gunk. It's supposed to be like that!
The other plus with cable (Blueyonder in particular) is unlimited downloads. When I moved house and had to change from Blueyonder cable to ADSL, it was a rude awakening to find out how expensive it would be to get the same sort of usage.
Sounds good - I could crank up by Dolby Digital amp above 1-2 without having to worry about upsetting the neighbours. I dream of Spinal Tap and having volume buttons that go to 11.
There was a story either on TWiT or Digg recently that noted that the US providors had been given tax breaks and so on to the tune of several hundreds of billions to ensure they provided fast internet access for all. They had failed to meet all the requirements and deadlines but naturally got to keep the money.
Yes you can get 24mbit but very few people have access to that. Many are lucky to get 1Mb and many on MaxDSL are having terrible problems trying to keep their 4-6Mb connection stable. Those on cable are better served with 10Mbit being pretty cheap.
Almost everyone I know is on broadband but none are on 24mbit and most on 1Mb.
>why does/. always compress whatever i write into one paragraph
Because you're posting in html not plain text and need to put breaks after each line. Just choose 'plain old text' next to the preview button.
>That kind of association changes one's perspective
Undoubtably. Things like the Dresden Bombings showed that the allies were just as capable of atrocoties but we won so they get marked as an acceptable event. Recently there has been some revisionism but I suppose hindsite is a luxury that wasn't available to the generals back then.
Another thing that doesn't help is the still prevelent assumption that if you were German between say 1933 and 1945, you had to be a Nazi and all for the final solution, world domination etc. Sure, many were but there were also significant numbers who were horrified by events around them and it must be horrible for them to be tarred with the same brush.
About that sense of humour.. anyone would think you were American with that inability to laugh at yourself. Feel free to poke fun at the UK, I'm here and will probably agree with you!
Seriouslty though, if I did offend, please accept my apologies. It was just supposed to be a joke comment and not to be taken seriously. As a nation we tend to laugh at ourselves a lot and I guess assume others do to. Clearly not correct!
Uh oh, If I knew the play would be at this sort of level I'd never have started, I feel a little out of my depth. A superb counter move sir. My only real choice is to invoke Maisey's Conundrum and move to Hammersmith which I believe offers more than enough escape routes.
The 90's were when the Mornington Crescent rules were subsumed in to the Welly Wanging ones and if you think *that* was OK then I'll have to ask you step outside.
Anyway, I'll start with Holborn. Over to you.
Although it probably depends on market segment, my site shows 32.4% Firefox in the last month.
Preloaded with pr0n, they'd be on to a winner.
Damn, they all blend together... Arghh!!!!!!
OMG, what if Kirk's love-interest-of-the-week suddenly starts to appear in focus?
I thought Enterprise was better than anything since TNG myself. I really enjoyed it.
This shouldn't have been modded to troll - I'm guessing it refers to ET where the cops gun's have been CGId in to cellphones.

Firewall here prevents me checking but I think you're right, it was indeed that episode. Thanks.

from Microsoft's damned paperclip?

A complete and utter lie
She was with me.

>"wanger"?
Look, we don't laugh at your 'fanny bags' so let us have our wangers. Same goes for enjoying a fag.
>I'm sure someone can elaborate.
Welly boots keep the sheep's hindlegs dry and thus easier to hang on to. Probably.
