"Then why not nab him at home or the office, why wait until 5 minutes before he's due to speak at a grey hat hacker conference? It's sending a political message. Also, you HOPE and DEFCONers, keep in mind that just because the feds haven't shut it down and arrested everyone don't mean this won't be the year they do."
Holy Christ you give the FBI a lot of credit - but really they aren't that smart. They got him because they knew where he was going to be at a certain time, nothing else. I am a tin foil hat wearin' conspiracy theorist myself, and even I would have to stretch to read more into this.. The FBI doesn't run political public relations - they have better agencies for that. And if anyone attending DEFCON doesn't know there are feds in attendance watching the event and all attendees, they had better skip the event.
And real-time facial recognition software...puh-leeze...
I believe the FBI would consider the source. If you were the family of someone who was a witness in a federal case, you may be able to convince them to get me. I don't think the FBI is in the business of making arrests solely on a single third party witness... But if you really believe that, hey go for it - inform the FBI I was impersonating them. You would have a lot more to worry about than I.
My own mind is not a court of law. I can feel free to think whatever I want, about whomever I want, with whatever information I have. And ask anyone who has been convicted and is serving time in jail if they are innocent or guilty - everyone in prison is an innocent victim wrongly accused...
When you impersonate a federal agent, you give up the choice of deciding where, how, and when you will be taken in. About the only way to have control over that is to give yourself up as part of a deal.
"If Dual booting is for people who can't really decide why they bought a PC in the first place, what is slashdot for?"
Microsoft bashing, telling everyone how your hand rolled kernel is better than [fill in OS here], correcting other people's grammatical errors, and Natalie Portman + hot grits.
"I mean who else but Americans need a larger p3n1s, or wants vi4gra?"
EuroTrash - you know, the ones that blast Americans every chance they get, yet try as hard as they can to emmulate Americans.... Oh wait, of course you know - "It takes one..."
Test evnironment, curiousity, because you can.....
There, that is three. They may not be compelling, but they don't have to be. Would I personally have a setup like this? Hell no. But I am not so closed minded to think that just because I wouldn't, someone else out there might, for whatever damn reason the choose. Just because something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean everyone else looks at it the same way...
"Dual booting is for people who can't really decide why they bought a PC in the first place."
And generalizations are for people who can't see uses for things outside of their own realm...
"I know XP actually offers to NOT format the install partition for you"
So did 95, 98, and 2000 - this is not a new feature to XP. I used to re-install 98 right over the top of the existing 98 about 1-2 times a year, without formatting and losing all my data..
Why would it even matter?? If they gave away all their design secrets, who is going to compete with them?? When was the last time another video card producer besides ATI and NVidia has any mareket share at all?? Seen a Matrox or S3 card lately??? Even if another company started now, good luck.
Technically the US is a representative democracy and not a direct democracy. If we were a direct democracy, there would be less limits on governmental power and majority would rule...
Nope, that is Slashdot's job... ;)

This isn't that bad compared to say, the Lo Wang character in Shadow Warrior - http://www.3drealms.com/sw/
"It's about killing for energy, plain and simple."
Nope, it's about profit - even plainer and simpler.

While accused criminals do have rights, giving public speeches is not one of them...

Easy there cowboy. Nobody likes the voice of reason at Slashdot. Your explanation is too simplistic and does not require the use of tinfoil hats. Bad!

"Ask a northerner why they fought the Civil War, and they'll tell you "slavery". Ask a southerner, and they'll tell you "states rights"."
Actually I think if you asked a southerner, they would tell you "states rights to have slavery"
So, you know Guido that works from the trunk of his car in the 7-11 parking lot too, huh?? He always has a good selection....
Oh oh - a Mac user and a grammar Nazi... One more strike and you are out...

"Microsoft desperately wants Linux to go away"
I think you may have got that backwards...
"I don't see the value in dual booting" and therefore, no one else should. Everyone knows there is only one correct computer setup for everyone.

I think you got it wrong. The only reason for the Internet is so I can be an elitist asshole...
"However, as it stands, you just look like a jackass for trying to be cool."
Kinda like the jackasses who correct others for what they wrongly perceive as mistakes??
"Emo" is commonly used as a noun just about everywhere, so you had better pass along the memo to the frat kids at your school...
P.S. "emo" is not a "state of being" it is a state of severe passive aggressive, pathetic, wussiness.
Yeah, I didn't think it was possible to shut down the Murdoch machinery.... Someone is going to lose their head over this one...

Or maybe it just means Canadians are horrible shots...
