Of course had Apple not returned, there would not be an Apple today. Jobs returned to Apple as a different person than he was the first time around. He was (is) a leader. Only the truly ignorant discount the value of leadership. Jobs did (I believe still does) work for a salary of $1 a year. All of his compensation is based on the performance of the company, he is the guy at the top, he is responsible and he earned every penny. The people you claim "gave" him the money all have made a healthy return on their investments since he returned.
There are plenty of great engineers who products never see the light of day. There are plenty of organizations great at marketing and fail to ever turn a profit. Bringing all of the pieces together and building a successful company is no accident.
Do you worry about people from Ontario going to Vancouver because the list for transplants is shorter? because really this debate has almost nothing to do with money. Tennessee is among the 10 cheapest places in North America to get to and stay (For 18 days). Tough for the very poor , sure...Tough for anyone in Middle America, no.
You know,I remember how embarrassed Ted Turner was when he complained that Bill Gates did not give enough to charity and then learned Bill Gates had already given more than Turner's lifetime earnings, he just did not feel the need to brag about it. You actually have no idea what Jobs has given to Charity, I suspect it is a lot more than you, or me or anyone who will respond....
I think you should be modded up to 8 or 9...The conservative side of the healthcare debate has always been ludicrous. I supported it for about 10 years, then one day I actually thought about it. The healthcare system we have can not continue on the path it is on. Most Americans now have less choice than people in countries with socialized medicine. Don't think so? Sometime in the next year or two, your employer will move your prescription coverage to Medco..
1st generation iphones were more expensive with a lower (maybe no) subsidy. iPhone 3Gs were all subsidized the $200 a phone AT&T uses on everything. That is the difference.
1,7,8) Who cares....I am sure if they had a valid comparison to make they would...Perhaps all of those companies would do better if they would take the time to contrast themselves with the competition....
Your It guy should become authorized to service apples then.. It is not difficult or expensive and makes perfect sense for someone supporting enough users where going to the genius bar every time a battery failed would be difficult.
The iphone has supported remote Wipe for exchange users since 2.0 (Or whenever exchange was added). It is nice to see it for everyone else with mobile me. I believe the iphone is the only phone that offers remote wipe as an option for non-exchange users.
Apple eventually realized what a horrible development environment Java was for desktop apps....I believe they decided it was a better idea to strongly support native development tools than trying and gain app support through Java.
Which is why I did not upgrade my original iphone when the 3G came out ( I mean really it was less than a year old) and now will be enjoying my new subsidized 3GS
Cost of doing business I suppose. If you are developing free applications, it will probably not be difficult to find willing testers. For the quality of the material they provide, the service they give and the extremely low if any cost to developers, you will not see most of them whining about this.
It is much more than a fancy phone or even a blackberry. You are not really comparing apples to apples. (sorry). Yes it is a gadget and no it is not necessary, but no phone is really necessary. Some people want to have one device they can use for phone, email, scheduling, music, games and whatever the other thousands of apps do.
Having said that, this whole thing is silly. Whole world is turning in to a bunch of entitlement addicts not willing to live up to their obligations.
Your original phone has almost no value. Refurbs of current models are ok, refurbs of previous models are worthless. You are asking them to defer their revenue, potentially out forever. It reduces their real income and significantly increases their risk.
There were a lot of things to be annoyed with AT&T about today, this was just not one of them.
Except of course apple has nothing to do with it and no one had their face slapped. Besides that. Great post. Unless of course AT&T following the same contracts every other US carrier uses is Apple slapping people in the face.
For the fourth time in this thread...Iphone service samey pricey other smart phone service. Understandy nowey. Pleasey showey meey smarty phoney costy lessy monthy.

I thin Woz came out of his partnership with Jobs Ok...

They don't. If your contract is up, you get the price. AT&T has always been pretty good about that and continues to be now.
1st generation iphones were more expensive with a lower (maybe no) subsidy. iPhone 3Gs were all subsidized the $200 a phone AT&T uses on everything. That is the difference.
No they didn't you just lied. No way you could ever prove it, what you said just did not happen.
3) You are discussing replacing an $80 device when upgrading a $1500(+++) device, maybe you can find a deal.
4) Whole new battery system, hard to say one way or the other.
8) Apple servers have redundant power supplies. You clearly do not know what you are talking about:
# Output power: 750W
# Optional second load-sharing 750W power supply for redundancy

http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/business/soa/Red-Hat-CEO-Tired-of-Microsoft-s-Linux-whining/0,139023166,120205505,00.htm ....."'blue screen of death' does not refer to Linux systems, but rather to the immature Windows products." ...Sounds like a bash...Your google skills suck.
Your It guy should become authorized to service apples then.. It is not difficult or expensive and makes perfect sense for someone supporting enough users where going to the genius bar every time a battery failed would be difficult.
Battery went bad in my Macbook Pro, apple replaced it for free, I am sure they would do the same thing here..

Some of them get confused since we pay to defend the whole continent. No thanks are needed, we are happy to help.

Except AT&T advertises phones exactly the same way and everyone in the US knows how cell phone pricing works...

I am sure they will miss your winning personaliy.
I think there a couple of reasons:
Your original phone has almost no value. Refurbs of current models are ok, refurbs of previous models are worthless.
You are asking them to defer their revenue, potentially out forever. It reduces their real income and significantly increases their risk.
There were a lot of things to be annoyed with AT&T about today, this was just not one of them.
Apple wrote their legalease in a somewhat confusing manner, but no they did not say what you wrote in bold.
Except of course apple has nothing to do with it and no one had their face slapped. Besides that. Great post. Unless of course AT&T following the same contracts every other US carrier uses is Apple slapping people in the face.
It does seem a tad late to mount a vigorous campaign against the entire US Cell Phone Industry.... What are we wll going to do, switch to Boost?
How every other carrier and every other phone works. Just because they were generous when the 3G came out, does not obligate them to do so again.
