Now this would be a good open source project! A virtual war - America's Army on one side and Glorious Revolution on the other side and if you don't belong to either country, you get to select which country you want to fight on. Wahoo!
It looks like China is heading for an enormous debt crisis. Add the creation of ghost cities as covered earlier this month and it looks pretty scary! It'll make US's debt crunch look like a drop in a bucket.
I've seen two instances of the scareware. In the first instance, up pops a tool that looks like a genuine Microsoft tool but called WinHDD. It reports that your hard-drive is failing and you are losing data. In order to fix it, you must activate WinHDD. But you have to pay to activate it. Spybot Search and Destroy cleans it.
The 2nd scareware camouflages itself by taking the Windows Defender name. It claims that your computer is infected with a worm. It can be extremely difficult to remove as it intercepts all commands: everything you click on returns a message that you are infected. Looks pretty legit but you have to activate Defender and in order to activate it, you have to pay. This one is trickier to get rid of. You have to boot into safe mode, exam the bat file in the startup folder to track where the parent program (exe) is located - usually in the user's My Documents. Remove the bat file and the exe. Than reboot to safe mode plus networking, download the latest Spybot Search and Destroy, do a scan. Then you should be good.
You seem to be quite fixated on children vs. adults not having equal rights. Maybe there's more to that one line then just children=adults....like gender, race, creed and color. Equal is an interpretation and in your case, it seems to mean equal rights. So what does equal rights actually mean?
You do know that there is absolutely nothing I can do and nothing that I would want to do to prevent you from reading the online book. I could shoot myself in the foot and take it offline which kind of defeats the purpose of having an online book. Perhaps I just wanted you to reflect on a few points....
"Use my book however you want and try not to be a dick" - well summed up. I guess that most people don't realize that I have little power in actually enforcing the licensing agreement. The Major League Baseball satellite does provide some thought control as long as you are not wearing a tinfoil hat.
Never said anything about equal in "voting", just race, creed and color. Why do you want children to vote? And what to vote for? Are you running for the Presidency of the USA? Unfortunately, I couldn't not vote for you as a Presidential candidate even if I could as I'm not an American... and that is not because I'm not a child. Just in case you were wondering..
"Defending" is a pretty loose term and how you interpret it is really up to you. If you want, you can hop the next plane and join the fighting or you can defend it by other means of support whether verbal or not. The Pro-life vs. Pro-choice debate is a very tough one and I agree on the controversy.
Seeing how you have rejected my licensing agreement, I hereby, under the power invested in me by the almighty Internet, I forbid you from reading the book or even peaking at a page once in a while. On a side note, sorry to hear about your family or lack of...
I use to have a pdf of the book but the BW charges from people downloading started to cost me money every monthjust to give it away. As for the editor, that just one of the good services that I could use;-)
There's a lot of work required to update it. I was especially proud of the Token Ring section than it became obsolete. I added the disclaimer at the beginning of the Token Ring section to stop teachers from using it in their curriculum other than as historical. Kept getting enquiries about Token Ring, the dead protocol. I just don't have the heart to remove it.
Money is a good motivator, there's a lot of work in revising the book and updating the look. A lot of the topics are now better covered on other websites. I started revising it a couple of years back and found that rather than re-invent the wheel by rewriting, I would most likely just add links to the many better sites that available for each subject. I'm also approaching early retirement age and I'm concentrating on other projects that will provide a better financial reward. Basically, I have too many things on the go.
Actually the line reads "You are allowed to use it, view it, modify it without permission of the author Eugene Blanchard, provided that you agree to the following:" then there's a bunch of conditions that if you follow you'll be a better person or a least make me feel better.....
I won't know that you've viewed it until you remove your tinfoil hat then the Major League Baseball's satellite will report it to me. I should really modify the agreement to provide some penalties for those that don't follow it.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head, there's not much motivation for keeping it up to date or revising it. It really needs all the graphics to be updated and the content reviewed. I do add new content once in a while, such as the section on subnet masking as it pertained to what I currently teach.
Back in 2000, I contacted several publishers about publishing my 500 page book "Introduction to Data Communications", pretty much all declined stating that it was not specific enough. I wrote it specifically because at the time there wasn't an introductary level book. One major publisher had the following conditions that I would have to do in order for them to publish it:
1. Add another 200 pages
2. Create an online website
3. Create an online test bank
4. They would forward $5,000 of my expected earnings in order to perform the years worth of work.
5. Hand over complete copyright to them
6. If they decided that any changes were required, I would have to pay for the changes regardless if I agreed with them or not.
I told the VP what I thought in the most appropriate terms and stated that I would give the book away rather than have anything to do their company. So since 2000, the book Introduction to Data Communications has been free online to anyone who wishes to use it. I used to make pocket change from the Google adds and for the last couple of years, instead of Google adds, I advertise the programs that I teach for at the post-secondary institute.
The ASUS RT-N16, Linksys WRT610N, and Netgear WNR3500L look promising. They're all supported by dd-wrt and in theory could work with openwrt. The Asus is some nice hardware for $90.
If you want to see smoke and mirrors at its best, read the pdf article from Canonical that explains Introduction to Cloud Computing. It is all consuming, ever present and the holy grail but what it actually does, we don't know... The summary is the most laughable part..
Back a couple of years ago, I was waiting for a flight out of the airport in Hartford and turned on my laptop. I forgot that I had my wireless turned on and up came the list of available connections. One was called "Friends of Engtech" - Engtech was a project that I was working on at the time. I don't have a clue how they picked up that phrase unless I had a shared folder called that - but I'm pretty sure that I didn't. I immediately switched off my antenna and disabled the wireless connection.
And I'll check it out for you...
Page 57 of the presentation: Combat evil "Falung Gong" religion and other hostiles
Here's the leaked Cisco presentation that was shown to the Human Rights Commission in 2008.
Cisco knew perfectly well what the purpose of the Great Firewall (Golden Shield) of China was and that it was to target the Falun Gong.

At that altitude, it should be moving just a little faster than 1 mile/sec. Hopefully, it will go where directed to - like North Korea...

Openwrt is the router part of dd-wrt. Here's an explanation of dd-wrt's architecture on the wrt54g router that I wrote up for the dd-wrt wiki.
