I'm not sure if it would work on one of these devices, but you can use a Windows Terminal Server using RDesktop. I've been using it at work, and it works surprisingly well--I haven't had any problems at all.
If you are really on a budget, you can also check eBay for sparc clones, which you can get usually much cheaper than the equivalent Sun-made workstation. Some clone makers are:
Tatung - I think their clones are only up through Sparc 5 equiv.
Integrix - don't know much about them
Ross - they made the really fast hypersparc chips, but also made some workstations. I have a hyperstation 30, and it's a good box.
everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that in russia what he did was NOT illegal and that is where it is being distributed and russia is where the money is being made.
i mean, hey, it's illegal to drive on the left side of the road in the US so everyone coming to visit the states from the UK or other left driving location should immediately be put in jail for their crimes!!! years of reckless driving, geez!
I really don't like those funny, optical, wirewall, 15-button monstrosities that other people do, but, if you want a good, solid Un*x mouse, my favorite are the ones by digital. I don't think they have a name, but the one on the computer I'm using is part # 30-46117-01.
I have several and they're great-they have three buttons of the same sime, they aren't big and fat like some of the 3-button logitech mice, and they're built like tanks. Since they were made by DEC, i'm not sure if they are made any more, but you can probably find one in a used computer store, or on ebay. I have several, and horde them.
"Unlike StarOffice it gives you multiple windows in the context of the window manager you choose."
--The new version, OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org), doesn't force the damn many-windows-inside-a-window idea down your throat, and actually seems faster than 5.1/2. And since it's GPL'ed, I'm sure the better parts of it will be included in the office projects of GNOME and KDE (and hopefully AbiWord!!!).
It (GCC) should be on the Mandrake CD, if it did not install by default. cd to/mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS
and rpm -ivh gcc-[whatever].rpm
you'll probably have to install the c libraries, too.
Knowing Latin helps learn the Romantic languages (i.e the non-Germanic & non-Slavic) languages of Europe. But even if you know one of those languages (Spanish, Italian, Portugese, French) picking up the other ones (at least to read them) is generally pretty easy. I coudln't construct an Italian sentence to save my life, but I could read the Italian above with very few problems, since I'm familiar with Spanish.
i agree...i use mandrake on one of my boxes, and i really like it, but a completely graphical installation seems superfluous...the installation of 6.0 & 6.1 are both extremely easy to use. i've installed caldera, which has a completely graphical iinstallation, and i did not like it at all....caldera boots by default into xdm!....that is entirely too graphics-oriented...anyway, with mandrake being as easy to use and install as is, i do'nt see the point in adding a grpahical installer...i know this isn't very articulate, but seeing a completely graphic installer(i.e.caldera) make me queasy....i don't like this trend... on another note, one thing i really like about mandrake/redhat is the easy upgrade feature...that is really handy...
I have a 2006 TDI Jetta, and (in practice) it gets 40 city/46 highway. The 2009 models are supposed to be even better.

You forgot "French Heroes"
Also check out kdevelop--you can tell it to use an external debugger if you want--I would also recommend DDD. (You can find both on freshmeat).

2000 isn't going to support alpha.
The Alphas have been on cards for quite some time....
after reading another post, i definitely agree that there should be an option between graphical and text-based installs....good idea
