A light year is the distance light travels in one year. It's a measure of distance not time.

The current system forces everyone to pay for what they use. I'm not sure how it works outside of Illinois but here electric isn't subsidized for business and I doubt the electric company shareholders would accept lower income so that a few higher ups could pocket some bribes like some earlier posts mentioned. A system similar to income taxes with a higher rate for big consumers might encourage less usage but it would hurt the businesses a lot too. I think letting the market find a good price will work the best in the long run. If companies use a lot then the rates will probably go up (although for everyone not just the big users).

If it didn't support HDCP then it wouldn't play 99+% of the discs on the market right now. There wouldn't be any point to even making it then. To get rid of HDCP the format will have to completely fail as CD's are on their way to do. Maybe if people are really happy with DVD's and the market share for HD discs is still less than 5% in five or ten years then DRM will truly be dead in the video market.

I was curious about this so I did a bit of reading on their site. It seems like the GPU's are only useful for certain types of calculations. So while the GPU's can get a huge amount done fast they still need processors to handle stuff GPU's aren't made for. Another factor is that the specific model GPU determines what types of calculations it can handle. That's the reasoning behind only supporting certain kinds of ATI cards. They can handle enough different types of calculations that they're worth using. As far as the PS3 is concerned for f@h I would be concerned about overheating if you're running it like that for long periods of time. It's already been a problem to some extent for the xbox 360 and the cell processor is even more powerful. PS3's are very expensive machines (especially at launch) to be using them for f@h if there's risk of overheating.
