If a better product comes along for a reasonable price, we switch. Simple as that.
If that were truly the case, then you'd be using linux. Windows is held in place by corporate fiat, not by merit... much like the Roman Catholic church.
That took elements common to Judaism and Christianity and fused them into an aggressive hegemonising philosophy that brooked no opposition. Where does that fit into the anology?
Sounds like Apple to me. Started out with open hardware and open software, and bundled them into a walled garden.
Oh really? what fraction of scientific beliefs that were "true" 150 years ago are "true" now? Science certainly seeks to understand and categorize the nature of reality, but makes no claim to absolute "truth". Most "laws" of science are (useful) approximations.
That's the wonderful thing about scientific beliefs. They're a moving target.
It's Bouma, not Bauma, named for Herman Bouma. It is recognizing words by their shape, rather than by the individual letters. The calssic exmaple is how we recongise words easily even when the lettres are mixed up.
Which government? Jesus, Dave, that was really stupid. You do know that the I in ISS stands for "international", don't you?
Actually, a number of the participating governments do, but I would have thought it obvious in a story about NASA, and in a thread mentioning space shuttle replacements, that it was specifically the US government being discussed. After all, what other governments ran a space shuttle program? What other governments were the Jupiter/Direct team talking to about their rocket?
Counterfeiting is a different animal than invalidating Bitcoins. With counterfeiting, you are flooding the market with worthless duplicates or fakes, thus throwing the authenticity of what you hold into question. With Bitcoin invalidation, a third party simply declares your bitcoins worthless. It's like when the money changed from Pounds to Euros. The currency may be authentic, but it is unable to be exchanged. The scary bit is that if someone can invalidate the FBI's wallet, they can invalidate yours just as easily.
The government *WANTS* to splash it. Why do you think they killed the shuttle program before there was a viable replacement? Why do you think the Jupiter-Direct plan was never given a fair shake?
Currently Slashdot is displaying ads for me along with the "disable ads" checkbox checked. Perhaps "approximate computing" is farther along than I imagined!
We've had approximate computing since the earliest days of the Pentium CPU.
Yes, I guess I am. He or His family is the copyright owner (otherwise he wouldn't be getting the royalties), so he/his family have the power to put the song into the public domain. Yet despite there being no good reason not to do so, he doesn't do it. Why? It can't be because the song that is on the first known recording of the Quarrymen, because that would still be the case copyright or no. So the only thing left is the money. He's living high on the hog on his Grand-pappy's Korean war era ditty and he likes it.

On some level, are we not all root?
Wait... no! That was Windows.
Gravity is a downer, and friction is a drag.

Obviously both Democrats and Republicans are devolving at an alarming rate.
Wonderful! Perhaps America will eventually get a decent government.
Color me puzzled, but if you already have already physically broken into the ATM to gain access to the USB port, why not just grab the cash instead?
Did anyone actually use point and shoot cameras in the late 1960s / early 1970s?
Are you kidding? Point and shoot cameras were all the rage back in that era. Perhaps you've heard of "Instamatic", "110 film", "Polaroid"?
Yes, I was curious about that thing as well. No idea what it is. Perhaps something shiny reflecting off of the cabin window?
It's really odd that the only place Google can find those star names is in your Slashdot post. It's like you made them up just for the occasion.
It's the same reason no stars.
There are quite a number of stars visible in the full sized photo.
You don't normally put the ashes in a coffin.
What ashes? Jesus wasn't cremated.

can still fap
Did you not see what happened to Wolowitz?
Since when is 6" x 4" x 4" a cube?
Since when are coffins only a hands-breadth in size?
How did the FBI confiscate someone else's funds, then?
They confiscated the computers with the crypto keys, probably.

All they need to do is drop an 'A'.
Definitely. It's the Administration that's causing all the holdups.

Physics doesn't care about complete precision
But if I don't know how precisely I know a particle's momentum, how can I tell how vague I have to be about it's position?

Sorry folks. The four reasons post wasn't there when I started my reply. I retract my statement.

...there's no good reason why the song shouldn't be public domain.
So why isn't it, then, Mr. Copyright Holder?
