It was EVIDENT that they wouldnt be able to provide such bandwidth if a small fraction of users demanded it at the same time, but as that wouldnt happen, they just went with it and noone said nothing.
This is the case in web hosting industry with some hosts - as almost none of the users will be utilizing their bw and space to the fullest, almost all servers stay underutilized, and you can oversell the server to a reasonably safe margin.
But, WE WEB HOSTS DONT FORCE CONGRESS BLURT OUT LEGISLATION IF OUR USERS HAPPEN TO UTILIZE THEIR ACCOUNTS TO THE FULLEST AND WE ARE IN THE RED IN RESOURCES - TO TOLL EXTRA WAGES FROM ANYONE WE CAN GET AHOLD OF !!!! WE JUST FIX OUR OWN MISPLAN.
Is it that easy in united states ? Someone makes some faulty business plan, it wents wrong, and then they can get new legislation to f.ck up more people to make up for their loss ?

This is something that has been going on for over 5000 years of human history - some minority abusing power to provide them with gains in EXPENSE OF the people.
At this rate, it shouldnt be any surprise for you if in the next 5-6 years you get drafted by the army to fight in a remote 'war against terror' that will be advertised and pumped up in the meantime by telco controlled internet channels, unopposed.
Unfortunately, yes, it is naive. Especially with modern election system, where who has the money gets advertising and publicity and wins.
After they win, they NEED to either earn this money, or pay it back to their 'supporters'. So with the situation at hand, this is a purchased congressmanship. That will naturally lead to taking sides with whoever pays.
I suspect they would care if google paid or paid not the exthortion fees. Noone can dare block google. Their users would kill them.
But the rest of the net, aside from google, microsoft, us, 'the people' would be affected and would have nothing to do.
As might google do join in internet censorship practices in china, this net neutrality thing affects ALL of us.

We HAD to, because that is the way it works. No congressman gives a shit about the taxpayers' opinion. They will be as much happy as they can be even if they end their politics career by voting for telcos, as they will have received a huge lump of cash from them by then.

Well, im in hosting since 2003, im member and contributor to biggest hosting communities on the face of the planet, and i can say that linux hosting has become a phenomenon in the last years, leave aside losing ground. And in contrast to 'some big blog sites', there are HORDES of big blog sites running over linux boxes, and that is everyday increasing.

NASA is now saying that possible life in remote worlds need not be even carbon based. There are theorists discussing if a silicon based rock-like life form evolution is possible. With all that, it is also possible that life may not need brain to be conscious.

As for asking psychologists, i rescind. Oftimes i see an intro titled "why psychology is a science" in some psychology course books. A science that needs to prove to the people it is a science doesnt have a strong position to hold on to yet, i believe.
Notwithstanding, we have not been able to get any applied form of psychology that radically changes our lives still, in contrast to other sciences. Even in treating mental disorders, most often they resort to sedative drugs. When someone is sedated, its not a treatment - its just suppression.
