When I first heard of Ajax, I thought something was strange. I even bought a book on it which confirmed what I thought, that Ajax was just describing a way to use some browser request object in the way we have always been using an invisible iframe. Looking back at my old code, my first 'Ajax' library was written in 1998 when I had to convert a client/server app to the web and make it behave like a client/server app. Everyone thought I was crazy back then, I always had to point to the new Peapod grocery shopping site as confirmation that I wasn't doing something crazy.
I don't think many will argue that Betamax was better technology than VHS. For mass consumer products, best marketing strategy, not best technology wins, simple as that. Just ask M$.
This is simply the broadcast networks way of getting permission to charge the cable companies for their channel. What is a cable company going to do if regulators allow the networks to charge them a fee, not carry them? They have to pay up. I doubt it will fly, but why not test the waters in Canada first....
The fact of the matter is, Firefox has lost it's way and IE7 has put the nail in it's coffin. The anti-Microsoft camp will stick with Firefox just because it's not Microsoft, we know that. For the casual surfer, once you get used to IE7's interface, you will simply find it easier to use and much more likely to work with the site you are looking at.
I'm suprised that nobody has commented on the font improvements. Small fonts, especially for font faces such as Arial or Times Roman, looked really bad in IE6 and Firefox. IE7 improves the small fonts and makes them much clearer. Set your brower to smallest font setting in both IE7 and Firefox and click around the net to compare and you will see what I mean.
Oh yeah, let me save you some time, don't look for the font setting under View in IE7, it's under Page:-(
When I first heard about this, I thought brilliant. What better way for Apple to demonstrate how prone to viruses windows machines are, than to put a virus on an ipod that only affects windows machines.
Google's market cap is over 127 Billion, based largly on click ad revenue. Unlike bubble v1.0, Google is making money and a lot of it, but its based on something quite fragile. Some day a better idea may come along or advertisers may get tired of all the click-fraud. Compare Google with other good old american companies.
Based on market cap
1 Google = 8 Ford Motors
1 Google = 222 Intels
1 Google = 2.5 McDonalds
1 Google =.93 IBMs
1 Google = 1.6 Time Warners
