    A poster writes how eating smart peoples brains that he kills received a "5" for "informative". Now either something is going horribly wrong here with the rating system or more smart people are needed here to joint in on the approval process. It's ridiculous to think that a forum can award the "5 Informative" to some 'dude' trying to be funny when there is no factual information in the response. Yet someone who posts here with Bush Supported = Troll and Bush Hater =Points receives a -1 Troll rating? WTF? As this post would relate to the topic...There continues to be over sensationalizing over what information the government collects. I'm sure that no matter which president is in power, information will continue to be collected on each and every person that our Government sees fit whether we like it or not. The fact that this story originated from Patrick Leahey is already an indicator that the story is flawed. You need to read about Leahey's voting record before you hold value in what he says. If you continue to hold value in what he says then it should not result in you being a troll. Comments should be welcome but the additional question is Why is a Political Wiretapping story on Slashdot?

    This is a most retarded law that is as difficult to enforce as the speed limit. But after thinking about it...deeply while listening to my ripped copy of my favorite CD, I'd have to say that it is a logical thing to do and actually doesn't really equate to bush hate. Sure it seems odd that someone who received the gift of music would turn in the giver of the gift over a technicality and that the giver happens to be the bush twins but technically a president signs bills into law and there is no better way to force the issue of how retarded the law is than to make sure everyone has to follow it even if it means taking the presidents daughters for 1.8 million dollars. Isn't that like 9 years of paychecks from GWB? Maybe he'll get the picture. I actually hope the RIAA wins but it sucks because my views are diametrically opposed to the story. The RIAA sucks. So by that logic we'd have to kill alot of people to make them obey the speed limit. I mean...its THE LAW.

  9. Re:The Good Kind of Sanctions on US Bans Sales of iPods To North Korea · · Score: 1, Flamebait

    When you talk about how sanctions are ruining Iraq, do you consider how much money the US has invested into Iraq with AND without the monetary aide of the UN? We are talking billions and billions of dollars thrown into their mix which is far above and over and beyond any possible monetary figure you can come up with or that any other country can even come close to. Not to change the subject to Iraq. The US has thrown more money at that problem in aid and in investments than anyone can argue as well as donating more money and more funds to all other nations that any other nation combined. Kickbacks and all.

    Now, with all the money in the world to assist a problem everyone knows about, you would then think that it is the people themselves who do not want to change. This is why we should pull out of Iraq. We will go broke trying to fix something that can't be fixed. Democracy won't flourish without supported sustainable development and Iraq is not about sustainable development. We can't do enough nor will we be able to.

    The United States is a generous supporter of key UN programs, funding:

            * 51.4% of the World Food Program budget to help feed 72 million people in 82 countries.*
            * 17.1% of the United Nations Children's Fund budget to feed, vaccinate, educate and protect children in 162 countries.*
            * 14.1% of the United Nations Development Program core budget to eradicate poverty and encourage democratic governance.*
            * 25.8% of the International Atomic Energy Agency budget to ensure safe and peaceful application of nuclear energy and prevent the illicit use of nuclear material for weapons.**
            * 22% of the World Health Organization core budget as well as significant voluntary resources, helping to prevent and control epidemics and to improve standards of health.**
            * 25% of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees budget to help protect refugees and facilitate their return home or re-settlement in another country.*
            * 25% of the International Civil Aviation Organization budget to ensure safe, efficient and economical air travel.**

    * These programs operate strictly on voluntary contributions.
    ** These programs operate on a combination of assessed and voluntary contributions.

    Recent increases [in foreign aid] do not tell the whole truth about rich countries' generosity, or the lack of it. Measured as a proportion of gross national income (GNI), aid lags far behind the 0.7 percent target the United Nations set 35 years ago. Moreover, development assistance is often of dubious quality. In many cases,

            * Aid is primarily designed to serve the strategic and economic interests of the donor countries;
            * Or [aid is primarily designed] to benefit powerful domestic interest groups;
            * Aid systems based on the interests of donors instead of the needs of recipients' make development assistance inefficient;
            * Too little aid reaches countries that most desperately need it; and,
            * All too often, aid is wasted on overpriced goods and services from donor countries.

  10. Re:Two Pointless Days on Web Retailers Expect Brisk 'Cyber Monday' · · Score: 1

    I understand the point of Fat Tuesday and its association with Mardi Gras and other multiple meanings such as you point out and not religion althought the name uses a religious event as a maketing tactic.

    The point I was trying to make was that having to name something for the sake of marketing the name is insulting. So, Fat Tuesday is an insult to Lent because the marketing aspect has taken over the meaning. You dont see any real meaning in Fat Tuesday except that you are encouraged to be the exact opposite of what you are supposed to be preparing for with Lent. Like do we really need a last effort to eat meat before we commit to fasting? Can't we eat meat on Monday too?

    Thus you are encouraged to be gluttons and the term didn't come from the religion which calls Lent "Lent". Why not make a "fat week" and wrap a taco discount around it?

    Fat Tuesday is a marketing concoction just as Black Friday is a marketing concoction meaning that it was created to provide to share holders of companies that thier forcasts will be in the black and not the red. Starbucks is a computer generated name having nothing to do with coffee and yet some of you go there everyday to get some pretty bad liquid in a cool namebrand cup.

    All corporate America marketing cares about is how to make more money at the expense of words and meanings and their footprint on the earth so long as the ink is black. So Cyber Monday is insulting or should be insulting to real computer users because the whole point of computers was never intended to be a marketing tool for consumers and big buisness to sell thier stuff on. Thus Cyber Monday is a retarded and pointless day. Next thing we can expect to see is a Myspace Day.
