  1. Louisiana has worst problems on Jack Thompson's Violent Game Bill Signed Into Law · · Score: 1

I live here. I'm young, but I see the things going on. We have an entire city not prepared for a hurricane. We have some of the highest rates for AIDS. We have horrible Air Quality. Our Gulf Coast is disappearing. We have some of the highest crime rates. Add to that the horrible qualify of education (even in the nice schools in Baton Rouge) I don't know very many people who like our Mrs. Blanco. I would suggest we dock her pay (hell we'd be just as prepared for the hurricane season) and give the teachers a pay raise. (Last I remember, we were the 2nd to last with pay rates for our teachers) This is a pathetic law, only being signed to make people think that something is actually being done to protect our citizens and children. On top of that, I know for a fact that I'll be able to walk into the local Game store and buy myself an M rated game I choose.

  2. Still a stable career choice? on Not Your Daddy's IT Force Anymore · · Score: 1

I've been planning on going into the IT field in one way or another. (Actually I'm going to double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) My problem is, I'm reading through these posts and I see a lot of "Without 3+ years of experiecne.." and "..can't find a job because.." Am I just misunderstanding something, because I know I saw more positive comments in the topics about whether or not IT is a safe profession to go into.

  3. My highschool on Home Chemistry An Endangered Hobby in U.S. · · Score: 1

As a highschool student, Chemistry was taught horribly. The teacher didn't even make an attempt to motivate anyone. It was entirely book work, with the exception of one simple lab. (producing precipitates in some microwell containers) Not that we had a very good class to do fun things with. Everyone was more interested in their Myspace comments than Hydrogen or probability maps. I suppose I should point out that I was the only person, without breasts, (the teacher showed obvious sexism towards the prettier girls) to have an 'A' in the class. (I got a 100%) I'm really interested in Science in general. Next year I'm going to be a senior in High School and I'm praying Physics shows better results than Chemistry did. I'm also lucky enough to be taking a college Chemistry class through the school, hopefully I'll get a better instructor.

  4. Ugh.. on Henry's Python Programming Guide · · Score: 1

As someone fairly new to computer programming, I've been reading through a lot of tutorials and things of that nature. I'm not in any particular class or anything like that, I'm just interested in programming. I, for one, am quite tired of reading things that try to be funny and make me laugh. This article is moronic and offends me as someone who was hoping that slashdot had posted a good source for learning Python. I find myself wondering if Slashdot had any particular reason for posting this or if the editors just decided not to read through submissions for a while.
