Not really, since they sold hardware locked-down that they've already announced to no longer be supporting soonish. Meaning that they now are also slamming the door on third-party improvements and will, once support stops, leave you with an unfixable security risk.

This is exactly the argument that is persuasive to me, at least.

As it is, this smacks of what happened to all the PlaysForSure (not!) devices and vendors when MS abandoned THAT platform. Everyone was left with a bunch of USELESS tech, which was SUPPOSED to force those people into the (later also abandoned) Zune "ecosystem".

And we all know the end of THAT story...

No! it's IMPOSSIBLE. The National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse researched this in 1972. I know. My Mom worked for the Commission (which recommended Decriminalization of Pot, BTW), and I have seen the underlying research they had done.

I think this kind of Calvinistic mindset is really why drugs remain illegal and big pharma hasn't tried to develop safer recreational drugs. A lot of people are invested in the idea of permanent sobriety.

I am reminded of the words of arch-conservative intellectual pundit William F. Buckley, who, although he was supremely Conservative in his political views, was nonetheless intelligent enough to recognize that we need to Legalize ALL Drugs (.long before Portugal did exactly that), to wit:

"Drugs are illegal because they are immoral, and they are immoral because they are illegal, and that's where we're stuck."

Apple seems to do a MUCH better job of policing their app store than Google, which makes iPhones a far better bet for non-techies like my grandma (and yes she does have an iPhone). I know someone will come along and point out some obscure case of malware making it into Apple's store but for every one of those there are thousands that make it into the Android store. It's way, way lopsided.

Google needs to up their game. Badly.

You are only partially-right. You don't have to be a "non-techie" to appreciate the advantages of Apple's App Approval process and iOS Security Model. In fact, if you ARE technical, you can actually understand and appreciate how well considered, well designed, and well executed these things are by Apple.

But the simple fact is, Google considers Android just another one of their Data Mining Opportunities; so it devotes precious little resources to actually FIXING the GOOGOLPLEX of very serious problems with the entire Android platform.
