Sorry, I just meant display. See, that's how much I care about how pretty the picture is. Yes, I am aware not all flat screens are LCDs but I don't care what kind of screen was in my SIII or my Stratosphere. My TV might still be a CRT if it weren't for my wife although I would have a Bluray player and some sort of media player (for Netflix, Hulu, etc..) hooked up to it. I do care about the content I have access to, just not so much the quality of the picture.
I know the Samsung phones I have had looked a lot better than any of my Motorola phones. That was nice but it meant next to nothing to me. I also know that they locked up a lot. I was constantly having to tear their backs off and pull the battery just to get them to respond. That matters a lot more.

I have all the same plus more installed on my Motorola and get better performance. I suspect it is because Samsung can't keep their grimey fingers out of the code and made low quality modifications to the Android software. It doesn't really matter what they did wrong though, what matters is which products work (Motorola's) and which don't (Samsung's).

Not long ago I found Descent in a thrift store. With fond high school memories I HAD to buy it. The engine was open sourced, you are supposed to be able to compile it on a newer OS and just use the data files from the CD/floppies. I found a Gentoo ebuild for it. Unfortunately all I get is segfaults:-(
I guess I could just try running the original executable in WINE. I was hoping the open source version would have better networking capabilities (Internet vs LAN)
Wayland is nothing until there is good remote display support.

If the gas tax is supposed to get people to use less fuel then taxing EVs is pretty counter-productive! Just support the roads from the general tax and use the gas tax to fund alternative energy grants.

Everyone who lives in a modern society benefits from the road system immensely, even if they walk everywhere they go. Your food, clothing, etc.. they are all shipped on the roads. Maybe you walk to work but what are the odds your employer would stay in business (and your job exist) if the roads all dissappeared tomorrow? Ever ride a bus? Was it on a road? Ever receive mail? Surely at some point it was transported on a road. I could probably go on all day, the roads benefit us all why can't we just pay for it together?
Consider this: If the power usage/content of our technology truly scales in the futre as it did from the past to the present then in the future a malfunction in the equivalent of somebody's cellphone today would have the energy to explode like a nuclear weapon. Perhaps there is a flaw in your logic somewhere?
If mankind or it's decendants ever have access to power like this it isn't going to be in the hands of individuals. It will be in the form of massive projects conducted in space far from any lifebearing planet. Even if we had the ability to give everyone a matter replicator we wouldn't because the potential for tragedy when working with that kind of energy is far too high.
If you want to slave away at some startup working all your waking hours for a fixed sallary just to make the company grow then sure, the job market is hot. If you think that will get you anywhere other than out of a job when the company either folds (90% of the time) or is bought up by a bigger player you are just another naive kid.
Don't get me wrong, there are some good programming jobs out there. I found one! But they are the exception, few and far between.
Oh, and for you program all day long 50+ hours a week types... all those hours sitting at a computer.. that is NOT kind to your body!
I used to use Alt-F2 that all the time, back when all it did was run applications or open urls. Now it's searching so much junk it's slow. Also, before where I would just type an executable name and hit enter, now it wants to give me a list of possibly similar things and make me click one.
I have the same problem with windows. I'm still used to hitting the windows button, the 'r' key and then typing what I want to open. Now it takes forever to do that and it comes up with all sorts of search results I didn't want.

I want something where every port can be host or client or maybe everything is just peers and it doesn't matter. I want it to work in a star topology AND also be capable of being daisy chained. That way I can hook up as many peripherals as I want to a limited number of ports but I can also chose to buy a hub for better performance.

Probably never. All incentive to replace Javascript with a serious programming language were killed by giving the existing Javascript these more powerful capabilities (even though it is still painful to use).

Sure do. Thought about switching to Trinity (KDE3 fork) but it's dependance on QT3 conflicted with newer application's dependancies on QT4.
