  1. patents on Is the POST Method Patented? · · Score: 1

There has got to be a limit somewhere when it comes to patents, how many times can we let little issues like this pass us by before we realize that our whole existance is being patented. POST and GET method's have been in use for years now, how can someone claim rights to it? This is getting rediculus.

  2. What's not banned? on What's Banned On Your Campus? · · Score: 1

On my campus there is not too much that is allowed. I haven't tested many internet programs, but from what i have tried, ICQ, Napster, IRC, even ftp is banned. Telnet is "sometimes" allowed when the server has a hiccup, newsgroups aren't allowed, etc. so what are we allowed? The web, plain and simple, even porn. What kind of campus allows its users to not access FTP or even newsgroups to gain information that may be needed, but does allow its users to download various types of porn. There is definitly something wrong around here. Btw, i'm located in Newfoundland, Canada. And this is the only college that disallows these types of internet programs, we're pretty much restricted here, however, a few advanced users have been able to get around it. One really weird thing is that we are allowed access to a Linux shell that the webserver is located on from anywhere in the world OTHER then on campus itself. You figure it out, cause i'm boggled.

  3. where did it all go wrong? on Hackers · · Score: 1

since when did the term "Hacker" mean bad? I'm getting really sick of it. I, myself, am in no way a hacker, but i do know that there are really good one's out there, and of course, there are always a few out there that do it for unethical reasons, but I believe there are way more out there that do it for the benefit of people. Take the DVD Encryption hack, wasn't that really for the good of people? I mean, it allowed people who "OWNED" the dvd's to be able to play them on their Linux Box, what's wrong with that? The user owns their computer, they own their operating system, they own the DVD, so what exactly is wrong with this?? Laws confuse the hell out of me when it comes to stuff like this. i mean if you're going to make an encryption, you should pretty much assume that it will be cracked in one way or another, so just stop your whining and make a new one. For each new encryption, there comes more cracks, it becomes a challenege to the people out there, and i think it's great. Instead of fining these people, or throwing them in jail, how about hiring them? If there the ones that can hack your encryption, shouldn't they be able to make an encryption that will be a lot more difficult to crack? (of course not impossible) These days with Holywood, tv, and the media in general, everyone is a hacker, i wish some people will get their facts straight.

  4. Should everyone be paranoid? on www.YourOpenSourceProject.cx is Free · · Score: 1

I know there are a lot of people that think that opportunities like this are, and always will be, abused by the idiots that cross the internet and web. But IMHO, i think the pros of this far outweigh the cons. It gives a lot of people out there the chance they need to get their open source projects out there into the community, and hell i think that going to http://www.myopensource.cx is a hell of a lot easier to find then http://www.blah.org/~asdf/asdf/asdf/project.html . There are a lot of good people out there that want to help the community as much as they can, and i think that this step will allow for easier access to projects and allow developers to contribute to the many many great projects that are being developed in the open source community. How about we put our paranoia's aside and just welcome this with open arms.

  5. buh-bye radio shack on Microsoft Teaming up with RadioShack · · Score: 1

Well, i gotta admit, i kinda seen that one coming, Radio Shack has always had that "Microsoft" feel to it. Everything i ever bought from there breaks within a few days of operation. The only question i had is how can a hand-held game get "blue screen of death" ??? =P Maybe i thought that it had some hope, but i guess not. HEre's a question tho, what if a big company like Radio Shack teamed up with Linux?? What would that mean to the community? Would it be too mainstream for some people? I guess that question has been tossed around a nice few times, but it's a pretty serious one. I know a lot of people who use Linux basically because no one else uses it, but what if all of-a-sudden more and more companies used it, and distrubuted with their new computers and the like? Would the popularity decrease? and that is my two cents.
