However, they do care about the linux community, although perhaps not the concept of open source software. They like the idea that there is a pool of coders that they can just say 'hey we have x-cool idea that we are working on, want to help?' and if the idea is cool enough they get cheap labor. I doubt that Redhat would have the guts to take a risk on a company like newlix, however their name could be a clue that it's not exactly the best risk in the world. Still, it's eight coders, a nice number, who probaly know each other fairly well, I think this will faciliate better coding and fostering of ideas on their part.

There is also the fact that they Don't have a finished product. This is a good thing, considering that puts them in a greater position to innovate. They are not tied to pre-existing software or the alienation ending support of a product would cause.

Assuming there aren't any more earthquakes in Taiwan, the IPC Direct deal is probaly also a good idea, despite the fact that it's probaly just a puppet for PC Chips over there. If IPC Direct can make some cheap chips, this will help out Newlix greatly.

Application hosting is bad, I hate it. I don't like the potential for other people alienating customers with Newlix's stamp on the alienation, if i'm Newlix. Bad decision.

In the end, this article says more about redherring than it does about corel or newlix. Unnamed sources, 'message board posters', Unqualified people, and generally missing the point on pourpose in an attempt to attack Corel. Sad. Real sad.

Civilization has always operated with an inner circle controlling everything. For instance a Total Democracy via Technocracy would be controlled by the media. Monarchies have an inner circle of nobility, Representative democracies have an inner circle of politicians and Pocket Filler corperations, Afganistan has the Taliban. There is not currently a method of government that has been invented to inform the uninformed, give power to the powerless, and lead the scattered in a manner that is truely their own motive. Should anyone ever devise such a method of governing then it will truly be by a intellectual giant amongst men.

Such is Linux's problem. The uninformed. Truly a problem with few solutions. The solution that has been taken by most people, including many posters to /., is to hide themselves and hope the newbies go away. With the current situation that has caused the newbies to become what they are, and the amazing pre-background that is not possessed by these newbies that is required with the majority of current documentation and friendly tech support, this solution is in fact a solution, it will make the newbies go away, unfortunately it will also be a great detriment to the operating system itself. I don't mean to insult this article since it's broad spectrum is relevant to many things outside of linux. However I feel it is fair, and important to point out that we see the problems pointed out by l0pht developing in a microcosm of the linux community.

My point, kind people, is that we must fix the problems in our inner circles before we can offer, or even point out; (for risk of hipocriticism) to fix societies problems in our outer circles.

In this brave new age, if you don't donate money to political campaigns you are 'shaken down' so to speak, and if you do then the people tend to be shaken down.

A New York Post story said Bill Gates donated to GWB's campaign to help him win the election then be able to have him get him off the hook. Sadly it appears GWB might be the lesser of the evils simply because hes accepted money from so many people that if he does one thing for one contributor he'll betray another.

Therefore it is a sad fact of american politics that the most effective elected officals are the ones who do nothing at all, after all you can't get them to do anything meaningful for the people except lamer laws that look like they do something but are really quite trivial. This is why we want John McCain to win, who claims he'll reform all of this, but unfortunately he'll probaly lose to GWB because he has more money and the vast majority of americans who vote don't think, and instead preform block voting techniques and vote for everyone with their political affiliation by their name, the winner of the elections is always the person who can harness the 'ethnic votes' like how Al Gore and GWB are both trying to speak in spanish every so often so they can get the Mexicans to go out and vote for them, and if you can't harness the ethnic votes your next best bet is to just unleash a huge ad campaign and create a rockstar-type fasade, (or in Bill Clintons case, hes accused of alpha male.)

As for disrupting communications, they have two choices, 1) blow up radio tower, thing that broadcasts to satilletes, etc. 2) break into the building and hax0r it.

I'll just go for 1, it's cruder but alot more effective. 2) could just be fixed with a simple contengency but it's far too surgical. To knock down the network you have to knock out the maintainers, otherwise you'll have a rather negligable effect, if Pakistan shut down India's banking network it would hurt them just as much as it hurt India simply because of how close they are geographically, even if they don't trade with each other, there are middle men in 3rd party countries to the conflict that would be hurt causing a ripple down effect of damage. As for bringing down communications there are just so many sources of it that although it would be possible to damage, the damage would need to be physical, not via the 'net.
