    That's kind of backwards, IMO. It ought to be:

    After all, using IMAP means all mail is accessible from any machine, and there's never any pesky browser evidence left behind.

    I didn't think Mac Users cared about doing all of that nerdy fine-tuning and tweaking of their system. I thought their mentality was that things like "file control" and "preferences" were for geeks

    Of course there are Mac (and windows) users for whom that is true. However, OS X is a BSD variant, and as such makes a very powerful and very geeky platform for those of us who like it that way. In fact, disabling the Goog's updater by changing its permissions is trivial using chmod. As for "cannot be simply removed", that is false. I can easily remove anything I want in OS X via the terminal. If you want it "simple", use sudo mc F8. :)

    According to his blog, he was in a posted "no trespassing" area at the time. The only real defense he has is that the signs are not very conspicuous. I agree the amtrack cop's behavior sounds bad, but it's hard to say whether or not he was provoked by his "victim" -- not that that's any excuse, but it does suggest the incident may be overblown and the cop's actions somewhat understandable, if a bit over the top. Amtrack cops are human too.

    Because you're sick of buffering everything for 20 minutes before watching and not having an easy way to discover new content that is outside the topic ranges of things you have been watching.

    Probably depends on where you live and your ISP, but here with 6.0Mbps DSL I can happily live without cable. In fact, I've got more stuff downloaded and recorded than I actually have time to watch, between OTA, hulu, and bt. Screw the greedy cablecos, I don't need them anymore.

    Linux, Solaris, *BSD, and Apple all have that snappy feel.

    I use OS X daily; it has many virues, but "snappy feel" sure ain't one of them. It's been a couple of years since I last used Solaris, but it also was not exactly renowned for its snappy feel.
    Of course, perhaps it's just that all things are relative -- snappy to me is ion3 or windowmaker on Linux or FBSD... Most everything else feels pretty leisurely at best.

    Yeah because speech alerts are really distracting. Did you even read the articles?

    I really did actually, and I noticed that voice alerts are a feature. However, voice alerts != voice control. And I've seen plenty of people start plotting their trip several minutes after they leave the house while driving.

    I find it is most curious that no-one is talking about holding the person who prescribed the girl's anti-depressants responsible. The woman is guilty of trolling, not murder. The health professional who allowed the girl's condition to deteriorate so while under his/her care is another story altogether, and is at least most likely guilty of malpractice.

    That doesn't sound right to me. What is your source for that statistic? I would think the percentage of multiple computer owners is probably roughly the same. I've had multiple Macs (and PCs running Linux and FBSD) for years, and so do several people I know. I realize Apple is often perceived as being more of a CE manufacturer recently, but there are still plenty of Mac-using geeks -- in fact, I think there are more than there used to be.
