  1. Re:Usefulness of Palladium? on Schneier Analyzes Palladium · · Score: 1

After reading the article, I can't imagine that a home user would ever make a point of purchasing a system on the order described.

Unfortunately the home user won't read the article. He will read advertisement ads that promise him a computer that will make "Windows XP even more secure".

The home user bought Office 2000 because of the helpful little paperclip. He will buy this.

Unfortunatly, it's worse than this. The home user doesn't need to make a point of purchasing such a system... Microsoft XP 2005 could easily ONLY run on a Palladium based system, therefore your average computer shop will only sell Paladium systems (with XP 2005 pre-installed) and so on and so forth... (I'm sure more paranoid minds than mine can imagine the scenario).

  2. Just say NO... on Diamonds - Are They Really Worth the Cost? · · Score: 1

I refused to buy the engagement ring (so no diamonds at all), as I refused to spend such a large amount of cash on something with such a short lifespan - sure, she'll wear it after we're married but she won't actually be 'engaged' anymore will she?

I did however let her claw back her status amongst her peer group by allowing her to rape my finances on the wedding band which she got to pick herself.

I get the occasional snide comment from her/friends but overall I'm happy with the outcome and choices made.

Yep, I have used one of these... while the screen is smaller than that of my laptop and any website/email use of the keyboard is on a very slow point-and-point basis, the fact that I could read slashdot and play planetarion with reasonable speed from a railway station was pretty impressive...

Obviously you'll want to consult legal counsel, and maybe you really don't care about the name anyway. But if it were me, I'd renew the name just to spite e-Media, LLC. Companies ought to learn that a polite phone call works better than a demand letter.

And if it were me, I'd tell them where to stick their demands and then quietly not renew the registration anyway. This was you get to spite them for free... :)
