I thought the idea was the bigger the corporation, the slower moving and more like a dinosaur it was ?
I thought the small, agile, companies were going to rule in this era of increasing change ?
The size of a company is limited primarily by the ability of its management to manage complexity - operations that span across continents and industries.
Advances in transportation, information networks and information technology have made this task easier than before. Therefore it is not surprising that the big are getting bigger.
The part that scared me, was that the top 200 had more money then the world's govt. combined. Makes the notion of big business influencing govt. much more pleusable.
That's logically impossible since the GDP of a country includes the revenue of companies operating within the country.
A former NASA rocket scientist, Tito tagged along with two cosmonauts who delivered a fresh Soyuz capsule to space station Alpha. Besides listening to opera music and taking pictures out the window, Tito volunteered to serve meals to his crewmates.
The face of citizen explorer Dennis Tito looms over his son Brad as the younger poses a question at a conference in Atlanta
"That relieved them of about six hours of mundane work they would have done themselves," he said.
The solution is obvious: NASA needs to send more tourists up to space relieve to astronauts of their mundane tasks, so that the astronauts can spend more time doing science.
Suppose I am Stephen King. Suppose I'm writing my next bestseller, and I decide to post it, part by part, on the usenet. Using google.
What this means is that google can now take my story, and resell it, denying me my rightful royalties. As a result, my family and I now starve to death.
Edison's picked up a lot of credit for stuff he developed rather than invented. The lightbulb? That was Joseph Swan's. Edison merely made it last long enough and packaged the infrastructure to go with it.
"Merely"?? You trivialize a very significant accomplishment.
Guess what sparky, money isn't everything.:) I would rather make my salary of ~$15,000/year and be very happy with what I do. Then make insaine ammounts of money and not be happy. I am pretty sure he likes what he does.
poor billy. he has billions and billions of dollars, but he's an unhappy boy.
This is not a big deal for enterprise customers, because on accounting sheets, the standard practice is to use a 3 year depreciation period for software i.e. every year, you count 1/3 of the cost of software towards the cost of operations for that year - after 3 years, the software is considered "obsolete". Therefore MS's 3 year subscription model makes little difference to most enterprise customers as it merely makes a standard practice a legal requirement.
The palm pilot was succesful because it was designed with the customer in mind. They put in exactly the applications that business-types needed to use (scheduler, etc.) and made everything simple. This made the palm very successful.
Simputer should follow palm's approach and build a "farmer's pda" - a pda designed from the ground up with the farmer in mind. For example, main menu links to information on the weather, agriculture, prices of crops. Applications to help farmers make better growing decisions. etc.
Unfortunately, from the screenshots, it looks like what they've done is slap generic linux (complete with X, command shell, etc.) onto a pda.
Within a few weeks of Allen's arrival, I found people telling me that I had no power at all, pointing out that Allen and the two VCs could vote as a bloc on the Board. We had not yet filled the two outsider positions so this point was tough to argue. 3 out of 5 = absolute power. Period.
Doh. I guess PG could have used a mba/business type, which he derides, on his side before he made the deal, couldn't he?
Why doesn't someone just go ahead and write a version of python that uses braces instead of indentations? All it would take would be a simple text filter to convert braces into indentations (and vice versa).
I'd love to be able to experiment with programming 3G, gprs and location sensitive devices, but unfortunately these services aren't available where I live (yet). Is there anyway to get around this problem? Simulators perhaps?

If companies can trademark phrases and logos, why can't cultures trademark and protect their phrases and tatoos?
This is the problem:

Law firms seem to be the worst offenders.
Wouldn't you seize the opportunity to advertise your work in every email you send?

Jedism isn't a religion because nobody has killed millions of people in the name of Jedism yet.

The photographs were retouched to remove defects. See http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/making.html
Why is the above post marked as troll? The poster is right - it's spread spectrum technology. What's new here?

I think you've to assume that a villager will only leave the village at the end of the day. In which case, the answer should be 3 sinners.
The trouble with sites like dailyradar is that they take an army of paid staff to do what a couple of hobbyists do just as well.
I see things like this as an INCREASE in job security, not the other way around.
How many toaster operators do you know?

IBM's Linux ads feature "hippy" logos from the 60s.
Therefore, they are targeting people who were young in that era i.e. the managers and corporate leaders of today.
Therefore, they aren't targeting the "newbies who weren't even alive in the 80s".
Therefore your theory is bunk.
That if you want to make money from software, you got to charge for it.

To have this work in IE, I think you need to add .text:
.text );
javascript:q=(document.getSelection)? document.getSelection(): document.selection.createRange(); if(!q)q=prompt('Search:',''); if(q)location= 'http://www.google.com/search?q='+escape(q

By far the niftiest entry of the bunch.
Each country has its own type of content so abhorrent that its censorship must not be questioned.
There is no form of censorship which cannot be questioned.
Their website doesn't say anything about holography or transmitting a "3d image". It sounds like what it does is transmit a lifesized 2d image.
