  1. Re:Passing the buck on India Rejects One Laptop per Child Program · · Score: 1

I don't know if any of you know this but a large portion of children in India have to prostitute themselves in order to make money for food. After boys reach a certain age they are forced to join roving gangs that rob their community in order to survive. If you are a girl then you hide that fact so you can join the gangs to survive or contemplate a lifetime of prostitution with committing suicide actually being an alternative. Imagine if you lived in this squalor, how would a laptop help you besides selling it in order to buy food? These children need teachers and food and medical help as well as protection from predators.

I almost laughed out loud when they demo'ed their VirtualPC Server software at Tech-Ed 2006. It's nowhere near the polish or usability of VMWare products.

This argument is essentially moot until Linux in general is standardized. Standardization is why the Microsoft OS is so predominant and to a lesser extent Macs. Mostly all software companies develop exclusively for Windows and Mac OS's. Very few develop commercial products for Linux, comparatively speaking. VMWare on their site has ready-made live Linux distros that you can download and use with their free VMWare Server software. This is most likely the future.

VirtualPC? No. The managment features are far from final and from what was shown recently at Tech-Ed 2006, it's horrible when compared to VMWare's products. We use ESX Server from VMWare for our shop and it's great. We run around 10 virtual servers on a Dell PowerEdge with no problems. VMWare Server from VMware is free and it's a very mature product that everyone runs on their machines here.

Another way to view this is that multiple instances of Office or what have you is still run from the same process/executable. Whereas a virtual OS is actually running in totally seperate instances that are totally unrelated to the other virtual OS's. You can move those instances of the virtual OS to any other machine you wish since it's not tied down any physical hardware.

Ah, but you forgot to mention the other episodes where the Bruno's wife was in black regalia and she felt an intense sense of racist overtones toward her to the point that she couldn't help becoming completely scared or even thought she could keep going through being black.

Affirmative Action is about hiring people based on skill and not on skin color or ethnic origin. The whole "quota" thing is just fud generated by people who want to believe that there is no such thing as racism still in the US. In my hometime, my family (who worked for the city itself) were not even allowed to enter city hall until the mid 80's just because their skin color was brown. Only recently was my town's sheriff, who was a notorious racist, was forced into retirement. The Klan would regularly march in my hometown too. It's only recently, mid 80's, that everyone of color in my town became tired of this shit and started to force these people out. Alot had to do with actual protection by the law and crackdown on the Jim Crowe legacy that supposedly didn't exist anymore. There's still a racist overtone in my hometown but it's nowhere near as bad as it was before. My father was just recently called a spic when he was checking out of the store but he tore that shithead's ass a new one. Of course, that shithead probably went home to complain about quotas or people being too pc.

Didn't you people see the Larry King Live show that had Edward James Olmos, Jim Gilchrist and Sonia Nazario and they all agreed to what the problem was (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0605/15/lk l.01.html)??? The reason there is an illegal immigration problem from Mexico is that there is a push/pull effect.

The PUSH: The two class system of Mexico (descendants of European families being at the top with the native population being at the bottom) pretty much seals the fate of people born in Mexico. The general lack of concern of those in power in the Mexican government have created this slave class that has to fend for itself for what most of us in the US take for granted. No jobs or a possibility of a middle class type future pushes many natives or "Indio's" as they are referred to by the general Mexican-American population, to look for work in the US. (Side note: There is a difference in the illegals coming from Mexico and those who are of Mexican-American descent, but most rednecks and those in political positions don't seem to care to understand.) Not only is the Mexican government crooked in that politics are paid for by the rich, but also the law enforcement is crooked in the same manner. There is no "justice" in Mexico unless you have the money to pay for it. Lastly, Mexico is just as much a racist country as the US. Turn on any Mexican channel to see the color of the people on those channels. This is well known by mostly everyone who is of Mexican-American heritage.

The PULL: The slave owners, I mean middle-class households in the US is unwilling to keep up their own households or raise their own children so they hire illegals who will not give them "sass" or ask for much money. Greedy plantation owners, I mean farmland owners want cheap/expendable labor to pick their fruit/vegetables/wine grapes to keep their costs low and profits high. The general consuming public who buys these items at every grocery chain in the US also want these low prices. The general US citizen may complain about the illegals but they sure do want their cheap produce and wine. The indentured servant lords, I mean construction companies in the US want to be able to turn in the lowest bid possible to win government contracts and private contracts and they do this by hiring illegals who will not receive any benefits at all. There are cases where workers aren't even paid for their work.

The problem is caused by the US and Mexico hand in hand which includes all of us that live in the US. Everyone wants to complain about illegal immigration but what spending habits are you stopping in order to change things?
