Using an OS simply because it is "not Micro$oft" is a weak excuse. One of the arguments many people have is that Microsoft software is inferior because of the bugs... how can you defend that position if you're willing to accept buggier software from someone else?
This just gets down to the point.. we really need easier ways for government and industry to track our movements. Perhaps something injected into the arm at birth that would constantly relay a signal to a series of receivers? This way we can easily track those evil criminals and bad people and find lost children and do all kinds of good stuff.:-) *sarcasm*
Of course we're in school to get a piece of paper. Everyone knows computer science classes at most universities are a complete joke. The only reason to take them is to get the piece of paper to show your future employer to satisfy their HR department. I've almost never learned anything in a CIS class that I could apply in the real world besides basic C programming skills. Where the hell am I going to use the Cobol skills I'm being forced to learn for the piece of paper? I sure as hell don't want to sit behind a 3270 emulator my entire life and write cobol programs!;-)
Since you show a list of articles posted by a user, why not stick a button next to it that will let you view and/or delete it? Then move the first child up in the thread and make it the parent if you delete a message that is a parent. That's the only feature I find lacking.
Why do you do your development on a live web server? Shouldn't you try ironing out the bugs, move the development to another server and then fsck around with that until it's stable? I love slashdot, but I don't see other sites on the net having the incredible amount of problems that plague slashdot each and every week simply because you choose to do active development on the server. That's just crazy. If you can't get it to run on any other server then perhaps you should stop adding new features and bloat until you CAN get it to stabily run on another box no?
What's next? Stop TV stations from advertising the movie? Who cares if the tickets are sold 2 weeks ahead of time or if they are sold that night? Are they REALLY that arrogant to think that they're going to be selling out theaters left and right so far ahead of time if they allow pre-sales? I mean, come on folks, it's just a movie! I think I'll go home and just rent a decent movie that night and let the fools flock to the theaters.

Hmmm.. if at first you don't succeed, drop it and take it next semester with an easier professor. :-)
