    MS Surface technology doesn't use a touch screen, it uses a camera behind a projection screen (look closely on the unit flat on the table and you'll see it's at least 6" tall or more). Obviously this analog step in the mix introduces some amount of lag. The Surface concept is a great idea for super sized displays but it's use on laptop/desktop sized screens doesn't scale down well, traditional touch screen technology is better and smaller (although Apple does own a patent on multi-touch LCD iirc).

    Actually they won't announce it's removal until Beta 1 comes out in late 2011. What makes you think Windows 7 is coming out on time?

    This guy is a consultant, he should be on site and loading the data without every leaving the network. Once it's outside the network, it's as good as stolen. Do you really think he's going to remember to permanently delete his email, what about his temp file created when he unzipped the data or the unzipped & decrypted file he imported (that he didn't delete because he might need to flush and import again? If he gets a copy of it outside the network, chances are he's got 1 or 2 copies of it unsecured in his laptop/desktop that will stay there until the HD gets formatted.

    Exactly, and obviously the gig paid enough because he accepted it. I'm sure he made more per hour doing this game than anything he's done in his career. The fact this article is tagged 'greed' sums it all up. He finds out the pie is really big, now he wants a piece of it after the agreement has been signed, sealed and cashed.

    Wow really, no useful features in Photoshop lately, well let me list the minor ones I know about that have been added since Photoshop 4 which is almost 10yrs ago now.

    1. multiple undos
    2. the ability to group multiple layers into a "smart object" making it easier to reuse image parts you've created
    3. Save for Web ... finally you can customize the exactly details of an image and get realtime feedback how big the image is
    4. text stays editable, instead of converted into "carved in stone" pixel data
    5. layer effects (enough said)
    6. major UI overhaul that's make it easier to use and more organized

    and those are just the bits I use. Now how about you shut your whine hole and go innovate something yourself

    Well you forgot the part where PC games natively render at the resolution you choose, where as a console cheats and renders at 640p or 720p internally then upscale the signal to 720p or 1080p. So if you want to compare apples to apple, go play all your PC games somewhere around 1026x768 or less before you mention how PC needs more power. PS: not to mention the PC bus & ram is slower than consoles as everything inside the console is proprietary so they don't have to conform to standards and mass support.

    Ok so you have a $500 cpu/gpu setup, bet you forgot the $40 keyboard & mouse, $300 monitor, $50 case, $50 psu, $150 motherboard, $30 for a DVD burner and $50 for a sound card. That brings us to $1,170 total. Sounds like you're the one who doesn't realize how much a gamer grade PC costs.

    When people are happy with their job, when they enjoy the social contacts, when they get to work in a nice environment and, above all, when they have a sense of purpose, then they make reasonable wage demands. When the job sucks, they spend 8 hours a day thinking "I don't get paid enough for this shit." In that case, no wage will be high enough.

    That's the smartest thing that's been said all month here...

    id sells well, and none of us know the figures, but I wouldn't be surprised if the majority (60%?) of id's profits come from selling engines, and not game sales. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if id inks up deals where they get a cut of the profits vs simply a flat rate. Which could be said that Doom 3 was a (very expensive to make) tech demo for their engine (although I enjoyed it, I know a lot of people didn't like the game).

    How about the fact I manually go to the FTP via HTTP:// and download every RC build, plus I manually download new versions because the auto update takes like 24hrs to realize there's a new version. Add in the fact I do this at home and work and I'm probably personally responsible for 50 downloads. This fact is about as useless as they get, kind of like "hits" on your website.

    ./ posts a short summary of the news article, and the whole purpose of a summaries existance is so that you get the jist of the content and don't have to read it unless you want greated details. But to exclude critical information in a summary shows an agenda at work at simply laziness on the writer's behalf. So the only person we should be blaming for not RTFA is the original poster, as his poor choice trickled down into dozens of other people's comments.

    Ok let's get specific: smoking and/or selling pot is pretty much victim-less crime, it's not going to ruin your life, and a judge isn't going to put you in jail for growing or selling it, unless you're running some kind of insanely large greenhouse. Now cocaine, crack, meth, PCP really does ruins people's lives and their families. So you can explain to be again what victim-less criminals are in jail?

    And I'd like to add I don't consider his prediction about OS/2 to be as incorrect as the article points it to be. I'd say in a way he was 100% correct, as long as you're willing to accept the fact that Microsoft eventually decided to "take it's ball and go home" and use it's knowledge of OS/2's creation and rewrite Windows. The future market was there, Microsoft just shifted it's efforts from IBM's OS/2 to their own OS/2ish OS, you may now call it NT. Ok I know NT isn't OS/2, but you can't deny how the events took place and that in a way, his prediction held some of it's weight.

    I think you're implying that Microsoft is Google's competition and you couldn't be more wrong. It's only true that Google is Microsoft's competition. From Google's point of view, their search engine has always been successful and Microsoft is a Johnny-come-late that hasn't been able to steal customers, even though IE's default search engine is Microsoft's. I think we can all agree it's been Microsoft who's been playing copycat of Google's products and have been unable to steal away any noticeable part of the market.
