  1. Got it on MPAA Fires Back at AACS Decryption Utility · · Score: 1

I havent really taken advantage of it since HD discs use so much drive space right now, but I just downloaded the utility so if the MPAA take get them to take the utility down someone let me know and I will post it on my own site for all to love. The MPAA and RIAA dont scare me and never will.

  2. Wow on States Seek Laws to Curb Online Bullying · · Score: 1

I dont quite get it I guess. There are groups trying to make it so schools can force a pull down of some students website if it "bullies" another student? Well, technically free speech doesnt come into play if said speech states lies or deflames another. However, schools should not be allowed to enforce that, only the person being infriged on should. This kind of thing makes me want to put up a site for those that do want to talk bad that the schools/government would have a difficult time touching lol

  3. Re:The solution! on The Future of Packaging Software in Linux · · Score: 1

I have to agree with many others.. I love Linux but the fact it is not easy to install applications as Windows or Mac makes it a non-user friendly system. Some of you may argue, but it would be pointless. Trying to install an app only to get dependancy requirements, NEARLY EVERYTIME, is not acceptable. Having a large number of apps that require you to compile them to work is just stupid. I think the Linux community, a large portion anyway, like Linux being more obscure and difficult than Windows because it sets it apart, but that doesnt help it to get adopted by regular users. What we need is a standardized installer, like Installshield is for windows.

  4. Re:So true on Microsoft to Get Tough on License Dodgers · · Score: 1

Actually I did this once at CompUSA. I got a copy of XP Home when it first came out, installed it and found it wouldnt work right on my computer. Now come to find out later it was a CMOS issue, none the less I tried and tried and couldnt get it to install correctly. So right before the return time I took it back with original receipt. The kid wasnt going to give my money back quoting the above "its an open box" shit. Unfortunately I slapped him with "I dont agree to the terms of the licence and it states to return the software if I dont agree" and unless they want a lawsuit on their hands for license violations, and me to dispute the charge of my card in the meanwhile, they better think twice. They did, and very quickly gave back my purchase price. They couldnt even get me for restock fees.

But as far as the BSA is concerned, if they come knocking at your dorr tell them to fuck off and get a warrant. You dont bow to them. And to be honest, if you have an orginal disk and license code, yeah that would be upheld. You are not required to buy windows.. someone could give you a copy.. license transfers. You are not required to purchase it from any specific store either. So no, dont let them have any power. Dont give them the satisfaction. Make them prove to a judge they should have a warrant to search. Most places just bow to them and that is their own fault.

  5. My thoughts on Why are Free-Desktop Developers Wedded to Linux? · · Score: 1

Personally I think Linux has a good chance of taking on Windows even more so than Mac, but a few things have to get doen first. 1. These developers need to realize that most people do not care to do any compiling or anything else special to install a package and go. There needs to be something that will do this for the person so that only an executable is used. 2. One unified desktop, or at least one that runs programs for any of the major ones and is completly transparent to the user. 3. Absolutly no CLI. GUI apps need to be made that are nice looking and feature filled, and do not require a user to run a CLI to do anything they normally do. 4. Honestly, a better bootup screen would help as well. And faster.. much faster. Linux takes a long time to start up compared to windows or QNX. But it needs a more professional look to it at the boot screen as well. 5. Good advertising. Linux doesnt really have any advertising. MS advertises, even on TV. Their name is know. Linux companies need todo the same or there isnt a chance in hell of Linux going far because few will know much about it. Those that do know have it in their head it is hard and a geek OS. That image needs to change.

  6. Just a thought on Flash Memory HDD for Notebooks Launched · · Score: 1

I am personally excited about this news. Its about time we get rid of the biggest bottleneck in computer performance... hard disks. They suck bad.. in fact they reach a new level of suckedness. Mechanical, power hogs, slow, prone to failure.. the only thing going for them that flash memory cant touch yet is storage space, and of course the corresponding price. Flash drives (that is, those designed to act as a hard disk replacement) are incredibly fast, reliable, built in error correction and redundancy, and not near the power gulpers of traditional hard disks. A 32 gig drive is plenty of space to hold your OS (or more if you desire) and applications. Now it may not be enough though for personal files. I know I personally use 160 or gigs of space. But in the OS and apps I use, not over 6 gigs. plenty of space left for those that are on the go and can sync up to their home / work servers. Its time to upgrade to the 21st century, lol One thing I want to know though... why use flash? Why not use traditional RAM modules instead? You can solve the problem of data being deleted by adding a small power supply to hold it. I head of a company trying that but not much else.

  7. My take on RIAA Subpoenas Neighbor's Son, Calls His Employer · · Score: 1

The RIAA and MPAA are nothing more than bullies, although they are upholding their legal rights. kinda of a catch 22 there. I dont like them for what they do and the tactics they use. And instead of embracing the electronic age, they fight against it, and attempt to take away consumers rights to fair use. Personally they need to be stopped IMHO, however until that point I will continue to decrypt DVD and music to store on my computer. I do not share it nor download (illegally) the media however, as that is morally wrong. Remember, when you do that you are osting money that the artist deserves to make. Yes it supports the RIAA and MPAA, but many punish them and not realize it hurts the artist as well. Oh yeah its illegal, but I dont really care about that part anyway, lol

  8. Re:countdown on Circuit City Ripping DVDs for Users · · Score: 1

I have to say I agree. MPAA and RIAA like to pick on those that are not able to defend themselves well.. like a high school bully. You know what I did to bullies? I beat them down every time in no time becuase I dont fear them. Same goes for the MPAA and RIAA. I dont share my media files, but I sure as hell wont let them tell me what form of media I can use to listen or watch it on. Whether or not they sue me makes no difference.. teh outcome would either be in my favor, or theirs and I will contiue to do the violation anyway. Why other people have let them is beyond me, and I glad to see a company standing up for themeselves.
