I started flying in 2002 in India. As soon as I understood that they can open my checked in baggage without my permission, I haven't travelled with anything of value in checked in baggage; I have always kept it with my carry on bag, my laptop, my camera, my mp3 player, my jewelry etc . Call me paranoid, but I feel safer that way.

In India, we do have [at least had 3 years ago] a cap on the postpaid phones. So if your unpaid bill were to go beyond a certain preset limit, they would cut off your outgoing calls. Incoming calls are free there anyways. And it takes one brave man or woman to call the customer service and restore the service for the remainder of the month as my brother discovered. They wouldn't do it even when he offered to pay the amount due middle of the billing cycle.

My manager freaked out and personally uninstalled Firefox from my machine, revoked my admin access and almost made me write lines. The point I am trying to make is because that was not my machine, I had no business using it my way. When in Rome ....

    TFA says,

For one, a case could pave the way to making all wireless networks more open to unlocked phones. In the next five years, 10% to 15% of U.S. wireless users could move to unlocked phones, figures Andrei Jezierski, founder of venture consultancy i2 Partners in New York
Maybe I am too lazy to search this in the past forums, but does anyone know why wireless networks in US offer locked phones by default? I used to use my old Nokia 8210 back in India on both Hutch and Airtel networks just by replacing SIM.
