You have it wrong. It assists Google, not you! It is mildly worrisome that it is installed on so many devices. Especially since those devices are owned by the people with the most money on the planet. In my country we give children little doses of indoctrination for the good of society (anti-smoking, cultural appreciation, environment, etc....). I wonder what would happen if a tech company decided to take the long view and alter peoples views over the course of twenty years?
Please remember that when they mention New Zealand they actually mean the GCSB which has these legal objectives.

An interesting way to look at health insurance across countries is to do so via a medium of travel insurance. I was shocked when I found that one month of travel insurance in the U.S.A. was going to cost me almost two times what a month would cost in France.

Also interesting is that if you look at Australia vs the U.S.A. in an international comparison on Wikipedia then Australia beats the U.S.A. in almost every metric (7/9) for half the price per person. There is something seriously wrong with the American health system and it is bad enough that if you adopted the Australian model you might save roughly one and a half trillion dollars each year.

Currently we have a situation where the true cost of products is being hidden because society foots the bill either by degradation of the environment or having to pay for collection and storage and recycling. I don't completely agree with that. We have computers that can think. They, like humans, can follow a set of instructions to reach a predefined goal. Neither humans or machines are very good outside that set of instructions and therein lies intelligence.
What humans seem to do is quite like evolution. We have a lot of people and they are all wired to look at a subset of things in a slightly different way. If we find a solution AND are able to communicate it successfully then the idea gets spread around to everybody else.
AI doesn't have a society including random variation. It might be able to play a game of chess but there isn't an AI that will look at the rules of the game and decide they are better described as a series of art works that are then accepted or refused by many other AI as a valid solution.
You could probably make more money without upsetting as many authorities by using it for marketing. I imagine it has the name, address, phone numbers and emails for at least one of the parents if not both.
Actually it enhances the rights of private citizens. Just because you have a car doesn't mean I should have to give up my right to walk on the road. We all have legs. Only some have cars.
I am surprised there aren't more comments on how this ties to political interference. Location matched with some basic demographics would be enough to target specific groups within our countries and things have gotten a lot more granular than that.

Our police and government use private investigators to sidestep the law (Thompson and Clarke is one) and where they get caught sidestepping it they change it since obviously the law was out of date. As an example of how blind we are our Womans Refugee website has 23 trackers attached to it and our governments email servers aren't encrypted. Sometimes I think our government security services are a bunch of very well paid idiots trying to figure out what GiCiSiBa means......well, that was my rant.
