  1. Apple and MS on Apple Data Security Framework · · Score: 1

Is apple going to give MS authenticode a run for its money? I doubt it.

  2. Re:x86 not a substitute for MIPS on Linux and Shrek · · Score: 1

I certainly wouldn't make that assumption. MIPS is hardly in the same category as Intel when it comes to rendering. But isn't it great that there is an OS that's not completely architecture dependant. Ok, try to forget that NT can run on non-intel systems. But who would prefer to work with IRIX over Linux, it's just a terrible OS.

It's amazing that anyone would lend credence to a criticism of Linux based on some (admittedly) general statistics from one source (bugtraq), which as we all know is the leading source for UNIX vulnerabilities (yeah right). And this article made it to ABC. Appalling!

  8. Re:Transparent Web proxies: are you being logged? on What Kind Of Logs Should ISPs Keep? · · Score: 1

Good point! A lot of ISPs use proxying for caching etc, though usually for http only. That's a scary point. However fact it, ISPs can log whatever they want, proxy or not, at the routers themselves or elsewhere. -[v]-

  9. Re:Crypto on What Kind Of Logs Should ISPs Keep? · · Score: 1

Hmm, yes, but couldn't govt. officials still supeona the data and force the ISP to reveal its passphrase? Having the data in any form still constitutes possession no? Though, I think that is the closest to a good solution mentioned so far. The data must be available to make valid queries to troubleshoot potential problems or security threats, however there has to be some sort of system in place to make sure that the data is not abused and privacy risked. The only other alternative would be to develop a filter that would keep the bare minimum of data required, that is the only way to assure that it will not be abused. Crypto is a great idea, but I doubt it can protect users from the Govt. authorities. my 2c -[v]-
