Screw traffic shaping and screw your boss. If the customer needs it, give it to them. I'm sick of companies oversubscribing and then thinking it's OK. I understand 1:1 isn't feasible but c'mon 70:1?
Companies need to realize that the customer IS their source of income, not a shareholder. Investment capital IS NOT and should not be your primary source of income. Take care of the customer and they will take care of you. Shit on them with traffic shaping and they'll drop you just like I did Comcast.
I wonder if the RIAA will attempt to sue the court system for this as well as storing a copy in some audio format? You know, they need records (pun intended)
That my love of free pr0n would make me a terrorist!
I'm glad this report placed me properly in society.
What's next, running Linux will make me a terrorist? What will my parents think? They tried to raise me right and all!
All of this MPAA/RIAA FUD only makes sense to politicians because they're on the receiving end of a nice fat check. Publishing this garbage to the masses is like pissing uphill and into the wind.
I once took a month long vacation. The boss thought IT was a joke so he didn't have me designate anyone to help with server problems/configuration/desktop support. I was given a raise when I returned.
The down side is that if you do a bad job, they'll just fire you when you get back.
The bottom line is that people don't realize your worth until they can't do their job because the IT guy is sick/on vacation/overworked.
Fortunately where I work, I'm valued and the value I bring to the table is quantified.
First, ZFS is trash. It's not even complete. There are over 300 fixes in the current patch cluster from Sun. Not to mention there are no robust tools to fix it once it breaks. Did I mention software raid rocks?
Secondly, hardware raid isn't going away.
Finally, the article doesn't take into account increased throughput of new drives that will be developed.
Thanks for the 2 year old posts. Glad adobe has some skilled coders working hard.
As for the "we'll maintain it for you", I think we'll do a better/faster job at writing a 64 bit flash player/plugin than Adobe can. Give a chimp 2 years with the source and it'd be done. It's only taken the open source community a couple of months to work with Sun's Java source to get a quality product out the door.
The "we'll maintain it for you" line has not particularly been borne out by experience....;-)
Well said from a closed source company. Heck, we might even be able to resolve all the serious flaws in your code. *cough* cookie *cough*
Intel will threaten but not do it; They don't want an anti-trust case on their hands.
Dell doesn't ship a 2 socket Nehalem Xeon system. The mac is a xeon based not consumer chip based. Quit comparing Xeon to Core (apples to oranges)
In fact, nobody but Apple ships a 2 socket Nehalem system. So you can't even compare the 16k Dell to the 16k Apple. Nice try.
You must be new here. I have my "karma bonus" set to +0 in my preferences. People with NO lives win at the internet!

This wasn't even funny. 3 posts and you guys both have a score of 2.
It's sad that you have an account to post with and one to rate your meaningless comments up.

If you want to see a $16,000 visit the Dell store as well only you'll get less for 16k. Just max out a T5400 or T7400.
Part for part, Apple will be cheaper. That and you can't even get nehalem on a Dell yet.

Apparently stability, speed and choice aren't good enough differentiators for Linux. Who needs a fast, stable OS anyways?
