  1. Re:pixel/vertex shaders on NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS Benchmarked · · Score: 1

I am not a graphics programmer, so this might not be 100% accurate. But I have worked closely with graphics programmers. This is a simple explanation, without hard details:

Shaders are small (the first versions had an 8 instruction limit, now they can be much more complex, but they are still in the order of hundreds of bytes), domain-specific programs that the gpu executes on each pixel and vertex. They are coded to achieve different effects like normal mapping or blurs. The name comes from the fact that they were intended to just manipulate the colour of the pixels, I guess, but I think now they can also modify the geometry.

Content (books, movies, etc) shipments through snail mail will decrease. Hardware will stabilize after the major Vista upgrade. Now they should target essentially-physical things. From the amount of spam I get, it seems viagra does very well. We all need some! That's their killer product: imagine the huge extra amount of porn that could be consumed. They could start an special express service: the quick viagra postmen. Or the pornoviagrapostmen, if they want a german ring to it. And they need a new suitable logo, of course. Think about it, USPS.

Well, it is not 'extremely poor'. Data from the cia factbook: Spain: GDP - per capita (PPP): $25,500 Extremadura, being the poorest region in the country, should be around 70% of that number.

The name comes from the time that this land was the southern 'extreme' border of the christian kingdoms of Spain, during the war against the muslim kingdoms of the south. And the 'dura' ending (hard) perhaps refers to the fact they had a hard time fighting for it...
