This game will self destruct after 5 activations.
How dumb do you need to be to become an EA Executive? I wanna sign up and get a kewl car, nice office, fat salary and increase activations to 6!! There.... I'm a genius!
And 20 years later the insurance firm says, "that will be $3900 per month please as your government DNA record indicates that you have a 10% higher than average chance of heart disease." Then a scientist discovers that persons with a specific set of genes is 30% likely to become a psychopath. Many arrests follow as police run through the DNA database. Later still, the human genome has been fully sequenced and the government commences an operation to create hybrid human clones from the DNA database, creating the workforce of the future for fat greedy corporations. Real humans eventually become slum-locked slaves as the clones work harder for less money.
If you think I'm over-reacting, you need to look back at human history - all your answers are there.
I am a skilled IT Professional. I have oodles of qualifications (Chartered Professional), excellent academic record (GPA 4.0) and really know my subjects. I have been stuck in the contracting rut for over 7 months now because nobody will hire me. Less skilled people appear to be getting the jobs. I am even having to consider a career change because I have no "career security."
There is a skilled labor shortage because companies no longer value education, knowledge, creativity and passion. It's all about fetching the cheapest immigrant or person with a certificate that took them one month to study for!
Hey that's really smart! Eliminate the competitive forces from a free market economy and yield a license for companies to set prices that do not reflect demand and supply. That way we can have higher inflation, less free income and have a lower quality of life. But hey, at least the really wealthy people will be better off. That's excellent social engineering and deeply reflects the spirit of America [sarcasm].
Oh why does it appear that our World is consistently screwed up by Morons! I give up. I'm saving for a hut in the mountains;-)
I worked immensely hard at my degree so I could become a scientist - a childhood dream. In 1999, I obtained a 1st for my BSc in Artificial Intelligence and was also awarded a prize. I was refused funding for a PhD by my LEA!!! I couldn't even gather commercial funding as there was no interest at that time in pure research into human thought processes. Years have passed in commercial companies with low wages (compared to the cost of living) and now I have decided to emigrate to the United States. I recently obtained my Visa, and now I am looking forward to picking up my scientific career again with a fully funded PhD, after a couple of years (with much higher pay and a lower cost of living) to build up my savings.
I advise all current and budding scientists to find a new country. The UK simply doesn't care, just look at the research budgets!
It's well known that the majority of marketing strategies fail. So will pay-as-you go packets. Even if some brands manage to secure a grip over their unsuspecting customers and have them paying more for the same services and products, the Internet has adaptable and evolutionary characteristics that will enable it to overcome what the majority of us do not want.
We don't really need lobbyists. Just let the mechanics of the Net work their pseudo-Darwinian forces of "survival of the fittest" and the Net will endure in the most suitable form to meet most of our requirements.
You can't freeze water at room temperature. Likewise, you can't put packets into slavery when most packets want to be free!
I was asked to create a fully dynamic, CMS backed website in 3.5 days, using ASP.Net just the other day. This was because the Marketing department had forgotten to involve me in the launch of their new spin. I managed it by working long hours, robbing code from other projects and working at a furious pace. There was no time to plan, I just had to spill out ideas on the fly. Sound familiar?
I went on vacation, returned after 3 weeks and nobody had used the CMS to populate the site with data and graphics. In fact, the Marketing department complained that I had not given them more time to decide what they wanted. I was blamed for holding the project up.
A lot of people out there think that coding is very simple, a bit like waving a magic wand. Oh... and the amount of times I have been told, "it's just a few buttons, surely you can manage that!"

Probably due to reduced revenue from sales of DRM infected games.

Now where's my wand gone?
