  1. My Thoughts on How Much Is A Web Site Worth? · · Score: 2

First of all, it's not the best time to be selling, because the "page hits --> ad sales --> profit" model has come under heavy attack. My questions to you would be do you have an ecommerce play (b2c ok, b2b better, but even b2b is old hat now -- still you almost have to have an ecommerce angle), will your site "scale" and do you have a massive untapped number of potential users. if you answer yes to these questions, then the sky's the limit. if you answer no, then you would have to go with a discounted cash flow type of valuation. assuming your 20K gross can go to 100K+ and that this translates into 20K net/year, at 7 times net, you're talking about 140K. that's why you need the plus factors.

  2. So what about linuxnewbie, linux-mandrake, etc.? on Linux Trademark Domain Crackdown · · Score: 1

These sites have got to be freaking right now. It's absurd to contemplate that any site using "linux" in it is infringing on a trademark. After all Linux(tm) should only apply to operating systems, not websites. Has Linus used "linux" as part of a domain name? Otherwise, fair use!

  7. MS should be cloned, not broken up on Congressman Advocates Breaking-Up a Guilty MS · · Score: 1

Since the beginning of the MS-Gov't dispute, I have argued that the most effective remedy would be to clone MS. MS1 and MS2 would each take equal rights in the MS technology, shareholders of MS would be split randomly into two equal groups, each getting either MS1 or MS2 stock, assets and employees would be evenly divided, etc. Granted this would be a logistical nightmare, but so would any other "solution". MS1 and MS2 would have a blanket proibition about any form of cooperation/agreement/merger/etc for at least 10 years.
