You won't address the "drug problem" until you've addressed the demand... and ultimately, I know this is a leap, but the economic inequities on this planet that push desperate people to traffic drugs, slaves, organs, etc.
The public, us, is fed so much disinformation that most of us don't know which way is up anymore. In the meantime, concentrated interests are pushing through the same agenda no matter whether the administration is Republican or Democrat... and what was once a middle class is slowly being pushed into extinction via economic pressures perpetrated by banksters and absent fed regulatory agencies, the highest incarceration levels among free and industrialized countries, a constant slashing of education, and to keep us frog from jumping out of the boiling pot... endless entertainment online or through the media (news and other junk). But no worries folks, as Egypt demonstrates, people can go hungry for only so long before they start to fight back, so there is hope on the horizon;-)
It's sad to see the result that is this country after so many have fought for what is truly a dream and nothing else. I'm a foreigner having lived in the US for almost my entire life, and seeing the unfortunate direction on so many different levels that this country is speeding towards has me looking elsewhere for relief, meaning moving out of the US. I hope that people one day wake up and take action to correct the country's course, but it doesn't seem to be likely. All empires come to an end.
I don't have a straight answer. Call your congressman, read more, educate yourself... I don't think corporate media is living up to their responsibility on keeping a democratic society properly informed. Engage others in political discussion, I never hear anyone discussing politics, its taboo. Go stand on a corner with a picket sign and protest. Join organizations that will further your political beliefs, that will allow you to develop other forms of protesting. I think we are all intelligent enough to come up with ideas.. but as I alluded in my original post, you have to act on it in the real world, not just the cyberworld.
Watch "The revolution will not be televised"... its about the botched Venezuelan coup. Presidential politics aside, and even though you might disagree with the ruling political philosophies, the PEOPLE of the country actually gave a sh!t enough to go out in the streets to reverse a military coup, risking personal safety and doing something about what they saw was wrong.
If the public in Venezuela can affect the outcome of their political leadership, clearly AMERICANS, with so many more resources, should be able to pull something out of their disaffected A55es.

But no one does anything to change things. We are still on the same path to a very unpleasant future, moving faster and faster to our destination. The reason we keep going down the same path is because not enough people give a SH!T. We all sit behind our computers and type away, send off emails, and if we are very radical.. then we might even discuss it in person with another human being. As long as we are all complacent, NOTHING WILL CHANGE! Until we got off our a55es, the ruling party of Republicrats will continue biz as usual, slowly consolidating their stranglehold on power... SLOWLY TURNING UP THE TEMPERATURE on us POOR FROGS! I guess as long as we can come home to watch TV, check our email.. everything is fine and dandy, cuz we can still post our rants on Slashdot. Darn that there darn evil gubment.
