Why is that -1 redundant? And now its +2 insightful, nevermind...

It is a good point, and the issue needs to be pressed very hard. The government must be reigned in and the proper steps taken to avoid such rampant disregard for the constitution and rights of citizens.

I know, especially in this community, Im not the only one that finds advertisements everywhere quite invasive. Im not just talking about the internet either, branding and advertising is -everywhere-. With so many online vendors changing to/emphasizing ad-supported revenue streams, I have a feeling this is going to impact sales negatively in the long run...

It gets to a point where I see so much advertising, I dont even notice it. I know sub-conciously its supposed to be planting the seeds in my mind to buy things, but my spending habits have not changed other then necessities since I first started making money... I just see this method as a failure in the long run. I think the business of the future will be successful first due to customer service, and a very close second on quality of the product. Everyone is so connected now due to the internet, word of mouth advertising should become more and more viable as a primary advertisement source, and we can finally have our mental space back...

Do you guys see the Core 2 making a huge difference in the server market? Or will Opty's still be holding it down for the next while?

Does anyone see the Conroe core making a difference at all? When it comes to server applications, does AMD's
technology (HyperTransport etc) make it that much more desirable? Or will/should Conroe gain more market share back to Intel?

    Why is it alarmism?

As technological advances ramp up faster and faster, and this endless amount of information begins to become available to most any people (especially government), why is it alarmism to be worried? I was not stating we live in Orwell's world, or anywhere close to it...

If anything has become apparent in the last twenty years, its that change happens VERY fast now. People become more complacent every day, the government and its actions become more shrouded and from what it appears, less responsible. With most peoples understanding of the government and the world around them dictated but what is seen in the media, opinions stop becoming personal and appear to becoming part of the mass (ie: media).

I completely understand your distaste at many peoples "alarmist" attitude, but it is a much better attitude to have then that of complaceny. As this article really shows, you must not stand down when things of this nature happen to you, be it from a police officer or a corrupt politician. And to get back to my original point, as information and access to it becomes nearly infinite and instantaneous, so will the ability to alter it and present viewpoints favorable to a specific outcome. Everything happens so fast now adays, people cannot afford the time to stop and just take a look around...

It is not Orwell yet, and may not be ever, but it is beginning to lean in that direction rather then away from it.

The problem is that just like most other large corporations, the people working on said projects really have no connection to the subjects they are working with. Sure there are the doctors and other employee's who work directly with the test subjects, but the vast majority of the company does not, and therefore despite having "feelings" cannot be bothered to give a damn about them...

As it hinted at in the summary, its much cheaper to go through litigation and the law, then to payout damages to the people whos lives have been affected. All hail the mighty corporate machine! If you get in the way, you too may lose your toes!

Exactly... thats the point I was kind of trying to get at. The exponential amount of funds spent on the missle system were a complete waste of tax payer money, but let the big military contractors sleep better at night.

I guess the same could be said for basically the entire military situation in the United States right now, all hail the new Plutocracy.

The main reason is because NORAD encompasses attacks from north of Canada (by Russia initially) over the arctic... So they have monitoring equipment and radars placed in Canada.

Thus Canadians are an important part of NORAD.

A report this month by the Government Accountability Office said the upgrade has been "fraught with cost increases, schedule delays, and performance shortfalls." But a few paragraphs down you read: ' "A missile attack from China or Russia is very unlikely," Keating said, according to a transcript of a recent interview with the Denver Post.' I dont know about all of you, but it makes me wonder why their is such a "necessity" to spend billions upon a "missle defence" program, when the two countries who would pose the most serious threat of such an attack (I mean from a technological/monetary standpoint. Sure other countries would gladly launch ICBM's etc, into the US, but -can- they?) can be labelled as unlikely to launch such an attack...
