  1. openSUSE is dead for me ! on AMD Backs openSUSE with Huge New Infrastructure · · Score: 1

No matter what step Novell takes, till the deal with Microsoft is alive, I'll never touch or recommend this distro. Why AMD, IBM/Lenovo or others push openSUSE they doesn't like Debian's "Social Contract" or The Ubuntu Promise ?

  2. Ubuntu preloaded PC in France on Ubuntu Dell Now In UK, France, and Germany · · Score: 2, Interesting

Dell are acting like amateurs. At Dell France website there is no way to find any machine with Ubuntu, I tried the search, "/ubuntu", manually checked almost all their offer, there is no Ubuntu on the page. At best the client is redirected to Dell USA with the USA offerings of PCs with Ubuntu.

I have a friend of mine who runs his business with only email and phone, he have 4 employees that do the same thing. All the PCs at his office are used for email, browsing the web and some document editing sometimes (spreadsheet and doc). He is complaining about spyware viruses and all that stuff. Many times I talked to him to switch to Linux, not because is free (he gets all the OS and Word licenses for free shipped with the PCs by Dell) but because of the stable and virus free system it is. Just to write emails and browse the web, he already uses the Mozilla soft. But he is scared of that Linux thing, not sold and supported on the desktop by any major vendor.

For guys like this , I think this is a great news ! This September I'll buy for him new machine, and I know with which OS it will be sold, loaded, supported BY DEFAULT !

Libya is certainly not as ravaged as your post would indicate. It's a rich(ish) country with food, oil, medicine etc.
Here I can partially agree with you. Yes Libya is a rich country because of oil but all the profit goes to Gaddafi (and his proteges, family etc.).
When you talk of providing modern medicine - yes, great. Now look at who rapes who.
When others provide medicine help, they risk their lives in this country because Gaddafi's dictature and propagana : "If something is wrong in Lybia it's EU fault , USA fault, Israel fault, not mine".Libya has sentenced five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor to death by firing squad for deliberately infecting some 400 children with HIV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS_scandal_in_Libya These nurses and the doctor are in prison since 1998 waiting for the final sentence even if doctors and specialists world wide have stated that they are innocent and the infection is because of the bad sanitary situation in Libyan hospitals.
Something the computer _CAN_ provide is information.
Yes information, but what kind of information ? Propaganda ! I bet with what desktop background the laptops will come to children (e.g. Gaddafi with AK-47). And last but not least look how China's communist government filters Internet, yes kids in Libya will get information and knowledge but Gaddafi's information and knowledge.

Just an example, and sorry for my bad english.
In France there was a debate about selling La Poste (the post company 100% owned by the state) and many companies like FedEx, DHL, UPS and others were interested, but all these wanted to buy only the deliveries to the big cities, and let the state continue managing the small villages with less than X (imagine here a small number) orders by week. Ok let's have a good market competition where there are good profits and no postman for my grandma who lives in the small town because she wants to send me just one letter per month and not 10 packages.
Sometimes regulation and state intervention is not so bad, in France the post service is all the same and good whatever you live, not only in towns with interesting business profile. (BTW: they didn't sell the company).
