  1. An office chair worth sitting in on Ask Slashdot: What Do You Wish You'd Known Starting Your First "Real" Job? · · Score: 2

I think this is overlooked by 95% of all people in the industry new or old. Go and spend some money on a chair. For the most part you are going to be spending 6-8 hours in it 5 days a week for a very long time. If you are willing to drop 1000-1500 for a bed which you spend comparable time you can spend $200-500 every 10-20 years for a good quality chair. It makes a giant difference in your time at work.

I have had the same chair for the last 15 years and it was worth every penny i spent on it. Yes your work may supply nice chairs but very often if you move offices or companies you will loose that chair. Get one you own and love!

  2. Dissapointing on What a Hacked PC Can Be Used For · · Score: 4, Insightful

I was hoping for a bit more from this article. As i read through it I was hoping to see reasons or impacts to the user. There was only a couple of very light examples. There is a very big need for people to understand how a Hacked computers, they own, can impact them. If it doesn't hurt them they aren't going to care. This is just FUD until it becomes personal.

Then they wouldn't constantly be pointing north. Only at the poles do you see a drastic north to south disparity of the sun. Otherwise the sun goes east to west most of the time. Any place this statement would be true you would have cowsicle and I think they would be pointing when the silly person who tried to raise cows in an arctic environment gave up.

  6. Whats the point? on Bridging the Gap Between Hackers and Academics · · Score: 4, Insightful

If it is so cutting edge why the hell is the conference "by invitation only, with preference given to the authors of accepted position papers/presentations". If it suppose to be academic the people with papers probably know this stuff already. Shouldn't it be for everyone? This way no one learns.

  7. Re:Nothing new.. Well, maybe a bit.. on UCSD Biometric Vending Machine · · Score: 1

The original network attached soda machine was created by a group of students from Computer Science House http://www.csh.rit.edu/ at RIT for fun around 1985. It has been a work in progress ever since. I believe they currently have two fully functioning machines. They also hold the patient on network based vending machines, which is why you don't see them for sale. You can find more info here http://www.csh.rit.edu/projects/drink. They also don't need you to scan the soda it is all automatic, and soda drop recognition is done with a laser.
