The only reason this can 'solve' the problems of a micro-kernel is because of using managed code. They're using software based security for user threads, rather than the traditional hardware based security. This probably creates more overhead. The only real advantages of this is that it isn't prone to hardware based exploits, and binary drivers can be cross-platform assuming things like pci buses are abstracted from driver code in a sane way.

Its really annoying that there are two valid points here, and the one that is anti-sony gets modded higher. I think its this whole slashdot mentality to just hate on the current industry leader. Linux is better than Vista or OSX, but I debating selling my wii to buy more PS3 games.
The reality of the situation is that people who can afford an hd setup with the ps3 are all really enjoying a very high quality gaming experience. Blue-ray isn't being 'forced' on you, its needed for the types of games the industry will be making two years from now, and the fact that the drive supports the disc that won the format war is an added bonus. Maybe the 360 will win this war (Nintendo is in a different market now, they'll outsell both but they didn't win, they created a new market), but Sony will have a nice chunk of market share from users who want something that is a little higher in quality. I don't have enough plugs for all three consoles, so the ps3 stays plugged in most of the time. My girlfriend loves lemmings, and I'm enjoying rr7 while waiting for the good version of burnout 5.
