Honestly, I kinda think this is like the crusade for Network Neutrality... Just as the advocates of Network Neutrality areStallman and his ilk are too early to garner enough support to put it over the top.
Until the average person is feeling the squeeze from DRM (Which is starting... I'm having average people approaching me on it.), or having problems with using Vonage over their AT&T DSL connect... there is unlikely to be concensus to do something drastic like this.
I read my *e-mail* in plain text... There is really no reason that my e-mail has to be flashy and glitzy or take input from an SQL database... that's not what I, or most everyone else needs from e-mail. In fact, with all the time you'd waste just making a simple e-mail message glitzy, i can get a fuckton more work done... and live in relative peace from a lot of the subliminal spam that's making it's rounds.
Not to mention... Why is using Outlook and Internet Explorer... "being part of the 21st century?" Firefox, which is what I use to browse has a clean, crisp interface, and lots of useful features that IE doesnt have such as... tabbed browsing, and highly useful extensions.
I've seen the way things are done in the big world of IT... I've spent time in an enterprise environment... and my job was to do nothing but chase virii out of the computers because people insisted on using IE and Outlook in unsafe manners... even though we used programs like McAfee and ZenWorks to "protect us."
I find it kinda weird... considering that a lot of companies say it's too burdensome to even bother checking to make sure someone's in the country legally.
The biggest problem that I see with Vista is that everyone will be encouraged to use nearly identical software. It's why most viruses written get past Norton at least for a few days... everyone knows to test Norton and McAfee to be sure your virus works.
I've always gained a bit of security by using Mozilla rather than IE... by viewing my e-mail in plain text rather than HTML. By using Zone Alarm rather than a Norton or Microsoft product. When you have everone using one piece of security software, it's less secure because if you can infiltrate one, you can infiltrate all.
Well, the ballots found were found outside the box, i forget where they were found... supposedly up inside some piece of equipment IIRC.
But what happens when the counts simply do not add up? It's not like you can descriminate which are real and which are not, and a revote is unpreciented in american politics. With a DRE and VVPT, you can find out what is real and what is not.
I'm not sure *what* i'm going to be doing in november, i'm being told that it'll have something to do with bag collection and tabulation... I might also be a rover again.
Well, in the event of a recount... 200 extra cards suddenly appear in with the rest of the ballots. It happened in Washington State, and a judge ruled you have to count them.
In a continuous feed paper tape, not to mention the computer record to compare to, it's harder to do just that. Also, the prociedures when it's time to change the paper tape here in my county is that the Presiding Judge and (IIRC) the person changing the tape *signs* each tape. I am certian about the presiding judge, tho.
During a recount in Ohio, they must recheck the paper tape visually.
In the interest of full disclosure: I worked for the BOE of an Ohio County that uses ES&S equipment.
In places that use paper ballots that are scanned, it is nearly impossible to guard against someone outright stuffing the ballot box, becuase it is nearly impossible to tell which votes are valid, and which are not. With a DRE & VVPT, you can simply compare the paper to the onboard computer and kick out any stuffing. Also, Due to the fact that the forms are continuous feed, adding votes in the middle is nearly impossible.
Plus, any shenanagans that take place need to happen before the end of the day, because each precinct's results are posted on the door leading into the polling place, BEFORE ANYONE LEAVES. The VVPT, if the voter watches it carefully, prevents any vote changing becuase it lists EACH CHOICE as SOMEONE MAKES IT. You are not left to intrepret voter intent through dimples or stray marks on the page... the voter did or didnt vote.
In the 04 election in King County, WA... there were more votes than voters who voted, and allegedly, marks 5" away from the bubble were counted as votes for Christine Gregoire.

It's not... they are talking about spyware laden programs to remove spyware. I think it's because most people are cautious on what they spend on.

IIRC, EON rules dissalow buying currency on ebay, and doing so is punishable by account banishment.
So, any "market value" comments would be moot, because it isnt legitamately sellable on e-bay.
Except in EON, buying or selling EON Currency on EBay is punishable by account banishment.
Unfortunately i'm already committed to the County that day. Otherwise i would.
