  1. Device manufacturers don't want FLAC on Why We Should Buy Music In FLAC · · Score: 0

The biggest impediment to FLAC is the fact that player manufacturers do not usually include support for it in their devices. I recently had to buy an "MP3" player, and the reasons for choosing a cheap chinese device over an iPod or equivalent were: a) 5x cheaper; b) the cheap chinese ipod ripoff supports many other formats, including FLAC. Most people have other priorities, though...

To those who might think otherwise, I'm not complaining about the presence of ads, but about an anedoctal situation, created by the fact that Slashdot's ads are clearly not targeted to the audience in question, or... they're rather targeted to disagree with the latter. It's a case of destructive advertising: instead of advertising products that might interest to Linux users, they're advertising products that are themselves an alternative to Linux, in a not very ethical way (at least that's my point of view). Cheers, Pedro

Yeah, I agree with that. But it's hard to ignore the political implications of such a presence in such geographical location. And isn't North Korea a sovereign nation as well (in spite of being governed by a maniac)? Why bother with the weapons they possess? Isn't Iran a sovereign nation? It's up to them where they place their missiles... why bother with it? And why such a complication around their nuclear program? Isn't it up to them the weapons they have and where they aim them to?

I agree. It's very similar to the "oh, death penalty is good because that way people won't even think about doing the same" argument... when will people realize that this kind of crime is most of the times due to psychopathologies? It's not a matter of more or less examples: if we thought that way, every Chuck Norris movie would be banned. What I find sad is the gradual loss of liberties that we are suffering nowadays.
