they're not ergonomic. not for reading. not for writing.
that is why they (hopefully) will fail.
i have one right now to read/write stuff on. i can't lay it onto my legs on a chair to read nicely, like i could with a laptop. the angle is bad, i want to hold it to see directly onto it. but holding for more than some minutes is annoying. it weights (no matter if it's not much weight).
writing on it sucks, too. gladly, i have a windows option, where i have the option to use the pen input instead of the multitouch keyboard (which i will hate on the ipad). and while you type with your hands, you can nearly not see on the screen anymore anyways, filling it wiht your hands.
so when sitting, you want to write with one hand, hold it with the other. the keyboard doesn't fit your setup, then..
no, they really suck. i, too, have a convertible. next version will have slate mode, notebook mode, multitouch, pen input (capazitive) etc. it will allow me to use the best of normal laptop, tablet, pen, fingers etc. that will be awesome.
normal tablets, no thanks. they completely fail at ergonomics. MASSIVELY.
and when they do that, they should provide some good counterargument. phones do have that: you can take them always with you. doesn't matter then, that they're quite small, quite slow. the portability is a huge gain.
what PLUS do tablets actually have? what do i GAIN from having one? i still wait for the one simple answer showing me a reason i should get one.. (i know some specific cases where i most likely will get one.. in the car, and for home-automation. maybe for djing, too.. other than that, no idea.. for the ordinary user, no idea)
politics response: block rapidshare. solved.
(they don't understand that the internet doesn't care about domains, about fixed servers.. a file can be anywhere, a link can go anywhere.. but they won't ever understand that. first, music, film and game industries should understand that copy protection never works:))
I never clicked an ad except out of accident, ever. Why should I be forced to see them when I know I will NEVER react to them. You won't make money out of me except out of accident. And you don't deserve that.
shouldn't it be if(day = daysInYear) or so? (or even just )
but in essence, your idea is correct and the code is much more auto-proven to be correct or wrong, as it's much simpler to understand.
I have to use XP at work, and have Vista at home. I know OSX and Linux.
Vista is much better than XP. XP is great for low-end. For even lower-end, use NT or Win98 (if you want only 20mb of disk storage used or so:)).
Linux is something else, but great.
OS X is something else, and good (not great imho).
But one fact is, on a fitting system, Vista is much better than xp. It as well has a great list of features that make it different than XP. not for the 0815 dude, but definitely for geeks like slashdotters are. Just sad how much of them are just blind.
If the choise of using Vista would've been suicide, I would not have done it. I've done it, and won't ever regret it.
The Anti-Vista Slashdot Community is a suicide for people like me, though.
Actually, Vista IS a reason to get an SSD. It performs much much better. I have an HP 2710p tablet pc, with core2duo at 1.2ghz and a 4200rpm hdd in. Now that I have the 32gb SSD from MTron in instead, the system is much faster. Full cold boot around 40sec, Firefox from 1min (!!) down to 2sec, everything everytime snappy.
SSD + Vista == awesome performing systems. Ram, CPU, gpu, all doesn't really matter.
And i think the impact is similar (if not as dramatic) in all OSs.
Don't look at it as a storage purchase. Look at it as a performance enhancement purchase. Like a new cpu, or gpu, or more ram. SSD have a much bigger impact on the system snappiness and performance, thus worth paying a bit more.
While there are a lot of possible ideas with tilt and touch only, the lack of real tactile buttons is a major problem for a lot of games. cellphones, ds, psp, all gameboys till today, all consoles, pc's all have buttons, which get used in most games.
the iphone looks like a sweet psp, but it definitely doesn't feel that way.
It's not the same. A Jogweel can not be used to directly position on a Track/Video. This is the same with CD Players in DJing, where you have to "scroll", or "joggle" to your prefered position.
Using a turntable, you could simply "drop the needle" at the specific place. in case of mp3's over traktor with the control vinyl of traktor scratch, this means you see actual 1minute rings on the vinyl, and if you want to go to minute 5, you can directly take the needle, put it to the fifth line, and you're there.
this fast direct movement to a specific position is what lacks with jogweels. you get that with mice, pens, and turntables.
but sure, a jogweel is quite nice and helps quite much.
Hm.. I'm a DJ. This is sort of daily business for me. Granted, nowadays we have a lot of other options, but its still alive and kicking. Vinyl just feels great, as you have the music sort of "in your hands". (and yes, I'm using Vinyl Tracks, CD Tracks over CD Players, Mp3 over Vinyl with Traktor Scratch, Mp3 over CD with Traktor Scratch, Traktor over Midi using a Faderfox DJ2, etc.. and all combinations of it...).
Actually, I'd love to have vinyl control for much more work than just for DJ'ing. Imagine a Turntable between the video editing PC. Using the turntable, you could very rapid move trough the whole video, search a certain place, scratch trough to watch animations, find specific frames, etc. Would be quite usable (and sort of gets used in VJing.. but I'd love to use it for generic video cutting).
i do understand their idea. media that stutters (espencially audio) can be terrible (espencially, as i'm a dj using computer hardware for music). but what i'm sad is, their new system doesn't even work in those cases. every singlecore system i ran vista has stuttering in it's audio. dualcores have no such issue. my mom bought a notebook wich runs pretty well, but is singlecore. she can't even watch youtube or listen to something in itunes without stuttering. so much for their glitchfree system. poor networking performance? okay, but i don't even get glitchfree audio for that price.
I know it's different, but i think the choice to not make it illegal to "just show intent" is a good one anyways.
If they find someone with "intent to share", they have reasons enough to observe and get an actual case, in which the ones shares, if he does. Or find out if he tries to.
If the police gets to know that i intend to murder, they try to stop me before I do, and can get me in front of law for this. But they can't get me in front of law because of murder. I could, right before doing the act, think otherwise and just wouldn't have done anything. Nobody can prove the murder as long as it didn't happen.
But showing intent is another delicti. I mean, if they get one sharing 100ths of gigabytes of copyrighted material over bittorrent or similar (i think they mean such shares, not windows shares.. it's just common terminology), they can react, but they can not bring him to case for sharing as long as they haven't proved it.

same. just with bing or something as default search engine :)

This is just right.
mainly for notebooks, battery power.
