Hmmmm.. dunno about your time schedule; one year ago I gave up on rpm-based systems partially for this very reason. Two years ago I was using the urpmi exclusively. I searched for another less deteriorating system but not wanting to lose my downloads (I didn't have broadband) I went to Fedora, then SUSE. I certainly didn't find what you are reporting to be so last year. Much happier with Debian systems, as the repositories seem to be better organised and just less hassle. If what you say is true now, I may investigate for better hardware interfaces..
I have got to wonder how people are able to learn the jargon relevant to their job. Mostly that is all these 'programming languages' are; jargon relevant to the job. That said, I'm about to teach my self LaTeX. (yes, you can now sit back and watch me crash and burn...)

As a Christian I do not understand why my fellow believers feel they need to utilise national military and legal power to establish 'the Kingdom of God'. If the description is only partially true then the Lord will be more than capable of pulling the coup off by Himself. (I do believe the description to be true, by the way.)
I don't know about slavery being evil. Hereditary slavery is I agree; for hardened convicted criminals, I would have no problems endorsing a temporary slavery sentence. Life sentences would be better served creating products than just sitting around waiting for the end of the sentence.
Proactive is not the 'optimum' many seem to think it is. Unbridled proactivity can be and often is the result of impetuosity and immaturity. (No wonder the term took the corporate world by storm.) If everyone proactively responded to situations as they saw fit, the intelligent mutually beneficial situations would be much harder to achieve.
Of course reactivity is no better, and should also be minimised as much as possible. What we need to look for is prudence and wisdom. In a short discourse, one might say that proactivity is not a synonym or substitute for prudence. Prudence is careful building in preparation for the future often in spite of (small) short term losses.
Wisdom is rarely proactive but patient and considerate, taking the path that initially is the less beneficial and requiring of one's virtuous character. Wisdom is knowing when to be proactive and when not. Every wise person I have known have defaulted to the latter except in extreme circumstances. It is being able to perceive that there may be unknown factors affecting the situation and considering the likelihood of the nature of those factors. So yes, unbundling of monopolistic OS would be prudent and possibly wise for the benefit of competition on capability instead of artificially induced factors.
YMMV... Mine did. Yes, it is a decent program. I'll even agree that it is technically superior to OO.o. I'd pay AUD$50 for it, if it could output a truly open document format. (Not an export function...) Of course, I don't have data locked problems.
