They probably get the majority of their revenue from scammers spoofing caller ids, so they have no real incentive to disable it, do they? That's why I'm suggesting the government needs to get involved, and fine every provider that allows this so heavily they go out of business. Not sure how that affects calls originating from outside the country though -- can't they still use any caller id they want?

  2. Netgear AX3000 and AX6000 are available TODAY at BestBuy. 5G? Verizon has it, but it's not really usable yet.

  3. I expect my phones to last for more than a year. My Samsung Galaxy S7 is still working fine, thank you. And it makes a great excuse for not replacing my daughter's still functioning iPhone 5s. 802,11ax routers are on the shelves now at Best Buy... you'd think Apple would want to support that. They are backwards compatible with older protocols, but you need 802.11ax support to fully benefit from all the new features. As far as 5G, I agree, it won't be very useful for a long time, based on the tests people have done standing right next to one of the few nodes that are up.

The target market for Surface Hub is businesses that can afford $10K-$20K for a fancy videoconferencing setup in their conference rooms. The target market for Surface Table is... douchebags that can afford to spend $10K to impress friend they invite to parties? That's not really a big enough market to justify the ongoing support costs, is it?

The point is that you cannot see the individual pixels at 4000x4000 or 8000x8000... in other words, you can't tell the difference IF you are far enough away from the screen for the entire screen to be within your field of vision. I'd say I don't want to watch a movie that close to the screen, but with wide screens people probably are not watching the entire width all at the same time anyway.

  20. Re: Just one problem on Sony Creates Colossal 16K Screen In Japan (bbc.com) · · Score: 1

Thanks. My point was that at 4000x4000, you cannot make out the individual pixels IF the entire screen is in your field of view. Higher resolutions are only useful if you move closer so only part of the screen is in your field of view -- but that's not really useful for movies. I can see going to much, much higher resolutions for still pictures that get blown up or zoomed in on (e.g. satellite pictures). But for watching entertaining, 4000x4000 is the point of diminishing returns for most people. Of course, what they CALL "4K" isn't is only 3840 x 2160 pixels or 4096 x 2160 pixels.
