I'm glad the Internet is pretty free, but it's only a matter of time until politicians invent an excuse to control it. I'm sure it will be for the children, or to stop some possible terrorist scenario. Then it'll creep out from there.

We do that through the election of our representatives in the House, the Senate, and the President of the United States.

Those soldiers are our friends, our fathers, our sisters and our children. I see what you're saying. However, with the Catholic Church and I would suspect most if not all Christian Churches life begins the moment the sperm passes through the egg and the DNA changes.

Anything that harms that new cell is determined to be interfering with a new person, a new life. Be it stem cell research on embryos or in-vitro fertilization. So it's not that the church is against science, but for life even in its most vulnerable and faceless moments.

Think of a snowflake. Each one is unique. Each one will never be created again. Like a snowflake a new embryo with it's current combinations of DNA will never be created again in a natural manner. So that is respected and put above any gains that might come with experimenting on humans even in their embryonic state.

Even when science determines how to create life from whatever building blocks are chosen those building blocks didn't come out of thin air. So I think their is plenty of domain left for the church to hang on to, and I don't think they are trying to put up a "firewall" on science. At least not in this case :)

Here is some knee jerk reactionism for ya. Our country was attacked by a terrorist group on September 11, 2001. Iraq's Air Force could not run missions on our land. So you might say... yeah, but hindsight is 20/20. True, but those are the dangers of pre-emption.

We performed a pre-emptive strike on a foreign land without the backing of an international coalition and without just cause. We have thrown tens of millions of lives into chaos because of it. All because of what I would call a knee jerk reaction to 9/11. Now we are feeling the financial pain of an irresponsible guns and butter plan. We are feeling the political effects of jumping in like cowboys with guns a blazin' into Iraq. Our borders are less safe, our military is run down, and our irresponsible foreign policy has created more terrorists than Al Qaeda ever will.

I believe all Americans should be allowed to vote at all times. No taxation without representation. The major reason I'm against not allowing felons to vote is because the government could simply make more crimes felonies, and thus remove more people from the voting process. Don't like it? Too bad you can't vote. In addition, by taking people out of the process you create a second society that does not feel like it is a part of the process and I believe this is destructive.

What about the black guy who got the book thrown at him and has a felony on his record vs the white guy who was caught with the same amount of cocaine and received a much lighter sentence? Check out this statistic, "1.4 million African American men, or 13 percent of the black adult male population, are disenfranchised, reflecting a rate of disenfranchisement that is seven times the national average. More than one-third (36 percent) of the total disenfranchised population are black men." Human Rights Watch. Do you think this 13% is going to try and make their neighborhood a better neighborhood. Do you think they care about their community? Why would they? They don't have a political voice. They don't have a voice in their home town. They are disenfranchised. We don't need that kind of America. We need an America that comes together and recognizes that when you are out of prison you have paid your debt to society.

In addition, I know *plenty* of people who vote who make poor decisions, or that make their decision on their candidate based on poor criteria. What about those who voted for JFK because he was handsome? Or Bill Clinton because he wore boxers and could play the sax? What about the people that do zero research and vote straight Republican or straight Democrat every election because they are programmed to do so? Because their husband / wife told them to? Because they "don't have the time to do a few hours of research", but do have the time to know everything about Britney Spears. Do have the time to keep up with untold amounts of hours watching sports on all days of the week in HD. How does this contribute to a better democracy?

Democracies are founded on giving their people the right to vote. It is our responsibility as citizens to take that right very seriously and to use that right to make our country the best that it can be. That right should never ever be taken away.

Now I see what you mean by Randian. At first I was a bit taken back by some of the ideas put forth by Ron Paul. However, after looking into them a bit further I like what I see. For example, Ron Paul does not like how the Federal Reserve (a group of unelected bankers) can control our entire economy. This seems reasonable and is backed by the philosophy of Nobel Prize winning Economist Milton Friedman. Here is a quote from the article:

"Friedman was the leading proponent of the monetarist school of economic thought. He maintained that there is a close and stable link between inflation and the money supply, mainly that the phenomenon of inflation is to be regulated by controlling the amount of money poured into the national economy by the Federal Reserve Bank; he rejected the use of fiscal policy as a tool of demand management; and he held that the government's role in the guidance of the economy should be severely restricted."

There are many other points why I like Ron Paul such as his non-interventionist foreign policy position. I'm a little tired of the US being the police force of the world, and then not paying for things we need in our country like roads, bridges (cough), and education. I'm a little tired of us invading countries at the whim of a President. Isn't congress supposed to declare war? What happened there?

My main issue with all other politicians is that I think our country seriously needs to get back to the Constitution and I don't feel like anyone else cares about it. With passage of the Patriot Act, domestic surveillance on Americans, and political corruption through lobbying groups I've just had enough. I hope Ron Paul wins and I hope he cleans house.
