You fools! Don't you realize what this means? It's the great penguin conspiracy!
They've been honing their plan for total world domination for years while lulling people into a false sense of security by appearing cute and harmless cratures who just want to fish and frolic. Well, their plans are now complete and what appears as a mysterious disappearance of penguins is simply the beginning of the great penguin war.
They are assembling an invincible penguin army deep in the secret caves under Antarctica. That's where all the penguins went.
I've never been able to complete an installation of 32-bit Windows XP Pro SP2 on 64-bit Linux/VMware server. It locks up the computer completely when it's installing drivers.
A proper judicial process with rational, reversible sentences that do not further feed the cycle of crime and violence is more important than the feelings of the victims and their families.
Vengeance is not justice - it's a triumph of raw emotion over rational thinking. It may be satisfying to some, but it's not something on which a safe and stable society can be built upon.
Well, I've had excellent karma for years and I'm perfectly familiar with the penalty dished out for not agreeing with the Slashdot groupthink. I can afford to lose some karma.
PM would say, "the shell team disagrees with how this looks/feels/works" and/or "the kernel team has decided to include/not include some functionality which lets us/prevents us from doing this particular thing".
That sounds a lot like the Linux development model.
Well, if the Microsoft really have been found to be a monopoly who abuses its position world wide, I'd certainly like to see a reference to that ruling.
And why should nation states and courts get involved in making other products work with Microsoft's?
Microsoft's not a monopoly: you're perfectly free to create your own standard (as the OO crowd is trying to do). Surely you'll admit that it's not Microsoft's fault that such standards aren't catching on?
Personally I don't use OO because I can't swap files with people with whom I co-author scientific articles. MS Office and Open Office equations STILL don't work right (and before you LaTeX fanatics step in, neither of us speak that language).
Since I get my MS Office for free, why should I even consider OO?
I don't see what the big problem is. If you've written software, you've probably released it under a license. Neither Novell or Microsoft can legally break that deal.
He's naive if he thinks that the politicians don't realize that. Fear mongering serves politicians' interests as well -- especially if you'd like to exert more control over the public.
The lack of hardware graphics acceleration and DX is a serious show-stopper.
Is it the same interface you find on MS Office for Mac? If it is, then it's a clear improvement over the old GUI. IMHO, of course.
Soon we'll be able to build an anti-gravity machine like that in all the alien flying machines! Bring on the Element 115.

But is this going to let me run 32-bit Windows under 64-bit Linux? Apparently Xen can't do it and that really bugs me.

So, Microsoft has finally adopted the Linux development model?
I like interoperability, but I don't like to see it being forced like this.

How is that promoting "fair competition"?
Big science, indeed.
It sure sounds people are just upset and paranoid because an open source company is negotiating with Microsoft.
And how the hell is that supposed to work? Why isn't Microsoft going to sue Novell, too?
So, what's the problem?
To quote the real Kosh: "The avalanche has already started; it is too late for the pebbles to vote." ;)
First the Novell/Microsoft deal and now this?
Ah yes, there's another reason to hate RMS.
Nope. I just miss the days when Firefox/Mozilla were such niche browsers that nobody bothered writing malicious web pages to target them.
I guess it's time to start using Opera, instead.
He wouldn't have to talk specifically about the current US administration. The principle applies the same everywhere else.
