Debian works out just fine for these kind of tasks. Here in the Netherlands the national compute cluster Lisa runs on Debian (http://www.sara.nl/userinfo/lisa/description/index.html) with 800~ to a 1000 nodes (I think the page needs updating by now).
Probably not or limited by the (highly likely) 100Mbit connection of the server you were downloading from. Oh and on the other reply on this message.. 1500KBps is something allot of people actually get at home over the 'regular' Internet.. so it's shitty slow
In this case superior hardware makes it a superior platform because that's what it NEEDS for these kind of tasks (video etc').. sales are just low because it doesn't have the playstation background and the fun games.
Sales have shit to do with this subject.
Sure, because you can.. but isn't the xbox far superior in it's hardware field anyway then the cube?
I have seen computer users buy xbox's because they like it.. the computer hardware inside and all the hacks.
I have NOT seen any real computer freak buy a cube.. yeah sure my little nephew did.
As if he or any of his 10 year old friends playing zelda all day long care about being able to install linux...
To get back on 'because you (or we) can', do it.. hack it.. make your point. done.
We really don't need another full linux distro running on a cube and nobody is going to connect it up to a network.
There is a big difference in watching a fully 3D movie and a 2D movie.. the best way to go is to combine them. I hope for disney's sake that they won't forget this.
If you want to see a 'perfect' example of 2D combined with 3D I suggest that you look up a trailer of the soon to come new Ghost in the Shell manga movie!
Personally I hope disney rots away and that we get more kick ass anime things:)
I don't see what all the fuss is all about?
Sure, the game engine runs at 60Hz.. so?
YES, I can see the difference between 60, 75, 85, 100, 120Hz.. I even love seeing 160Hz refresh rates.. we can still use 100Hz monitor refresh even if the game runs on 60Hz internally.
It would only redraw the same picture a few times BUT, you would be able to get rid of the flickering.
About the mouse running 125Hz.. atleast that's what everybody says.. pfft, I only know about 3 people who were ever able to master the mouse in fps games so scary good that they could acuratly shoot of heads in a reflex.. i'm quite sure all of you won't have a disadvantage so stop complaining:)
Actually ever since my isp changed from A2000 to Chello we had the same problem as this guy has with his download being killed by his upload, a few months ago me and some friends figured the same solution but we had no idea how to actually do it on a windows based machine, anyone with a idea?

I really do not like this show, it's all so fake etc'.. why can't they just rerun Miami Vice instead? :)
I never said they shouldn't do it, I even said they SHOULD do it to make there point that it is possible.
