Re:How to figure it out
Well, if you prefer a less arcane solution, you can simply open
/proc/cpuinfo in your favourite text editor, and see if "svm" or "vmx" appears in the flags line. But since on a modern box you get something like:flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm lahf_lm ida tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority
eyeballing it is a pretty boring affair, and using grep or the editor's search function would make it easier.
If that's still not friendly enough, you could use the KDE Information Center for instance.
How do you find this in Windows, anyway? I honestly have no clue because it doesn't seem to offer half the amount of information about the CPU without resorting to some third party program.

The only english story on the site[disclaimer]I love the Czech. I have family there and have been to the Czech Republic a couple of time.[/disclaimer]
I wonder why on a Czech web portal, that one news article was in English. I did a little looking around trying to see if I could find any other pages in English but that was the only one. It was also the only one that had a
/. submit script on it. Even the Czech version of the story did not have the script. -
Anyone care to translate?
The url for the account is buried and in Czech.
a translation would be nice. http://www.abclinuxu.cz/clanky/pr/abclinuxu.cz-vyplatil-nahradu-za-licenci-ms-windows-misto-lenovo-cr?page=1The last time I checked, the spread between a Vista/Linux Dell was about $200 with similar specs.

Re:OOXML.Would you mind to share your thoughts on the standardization process too? A very nice article (unfortunately in Czech, but with links) says basically this:
- Portugal - had not committee so they created one just to able to vote on OOXML - chaired by MS guy. IBM and Sun were not allowed to vote.
- Germany - committee chaired by guy from Frauenhoffer institute that has close relations to MS. Google and Deutche Telecom were not allowed to vote.
- Norway - the problems pointed out were dismissed by MS with simple "that's not true!". At the end Norway admitted themselves that the standard is crap.
- Sweden - the committee got 20 new members just before voting. They all voted "yes" because they were bought.
- Czech - 50 companies attempted to influence the voting.
- Poland - committee voted "no". A new committee was created and the vote become "yes".
- Hungary - the 1st and 2nd voting were screwed up (voting rules changed just prior voting, the invitations were sent late) and so Hungary did not vote at all.
- Italy - just before voting the committee was extended from 5 to 83(!)members.

Re:Old news
What're these "must-have" features in KDE? Any time I've used it, I've found a bunch of stupidly-named applications, and a big, bulky UI filled with toolbars. I'd rather use GNOME. Hell, I'd rather use Windows.
I like how you linked to an article on KDE 4, has anything of KDE 4 even been shown yet? All I recall seeing is some hand-drawn diagrams and some mock-ups. The Release Plan indicated they were aiming for a technical preview release in October, did that even happen?
I did find a screenshot, hardly looks like the revolutionary improvements shown in the mock-ups (linked site not in English, but if you scroll about half way down the page you can see the mock-ups). -
Every thing has its time......but I like and love what kde developers have done with KDE4.0. Just have a look: -

On a side note, the Morris Minor had its time too. Here it is:

What About ToPaZ?
Hmm, searching Google doesn't yield much of anything either. Some blog mentioned the "lack of information" on Plasma, and an image search only turns up a few pages. The best page I found is written in Czech (I think).
But aside from that, I think it's probably a good idea to mention Gnome ToPaZ (AKA TPZ, or Three Point Zero). I think it was originally supposed to be a plan from Gnome 3.0, but it's turned more into a brainstorming session for a "next-generation" desktop. Some of the ideas on that page are pretty lawl-tastic, but one very cool one is "lowfat". I strongly suggest checking out the video.
