Re:RoTfLmAo: NPD = Cry of the "Ne'er-do-well"!
you WISH you could have NPD
This makes as much sense as claiming that people are jealous of you. You're a lonely old crank whose last 'success' was a piece of shareware he wrote 20+ years ago. I'd rather chew my arm off than be you.
China
...That you think what you did and what they did are similar shows how little you understand. Or your desperation for any kind of validation.
imitated
...All your software does is download, merge, sort and output. It's a trivial concept. No one is copying it when the implement something similar. That the other two host managers on Malwarebytes are described as 'useful' and yours isn't gives a pretty clear idea about which is better - theirs or yours. And given that I've never had the author of Hostman spam me, call me names or similar, if I even need a host file manager I'll use it.
Hell, you know what
...
There, I've gone to the Hostman site, found the 'donate link' and donated ~AU$5.70 (3.5Euro) to abelhadigital.com. I've never used their software and probably never will, but they aren't spamming this forum; they aren't toxically NPD. In short, I'm donating money because they aren't you.stalking
...Classic NPD projection. You're the toxic piece of work that follows people to other threads to rant about making them run, or beating them or whatever else you need to make yourself feel good.
I challenged you to show 3 areas where China's implementation is similar to yours. Like all such things you can't answer, you ignored it and attacked me.
You can't because the only thing in common is that you both write to the host file. You have no idea what China is doing or why. All you are capable of is seeing 'host file' and you frantically copy it to your spank bank.If your software was any good you wouldn't need to spam forums. If your ideas were so amazing that China and Google copy them, then you'd be a highly sought after consultant, not an internet crank. You're trapped in a fantasy of competence and relevance which would be fine if you didn't need external validation. Given that you are neither relevant nor competent, this leads to this sort of interaction.
APK. NPD means never having to admit you are wrong. Or answer an uncomortable question. And it means you're awesome and the world copies you and wants to be you

Re:Best adblocker & more vs. threats online
Perhaps you ought to write a better program.
but... but... there is a better program, and it is called HostsMan:
-
Re:host file level adblock
use this http://www.abelhadigital.com/h... system wide adblcoking.
I'll give it a try, I edit my HOSTS file by hand and UltraEdit, HostsXpert I've used but has a tendency of replacing the space after local host with a tab.
Microsoft is tricky to block, a lot of the times you end up blocking a certification site. The very first thing your system (Win7) does is send a request to Microsoft, that I blocked after KB3035583.
http://www.nirsoft.net/ has two programs I use HTTPNetworkSniffer and smartsniff (both require Wincap) as well as reading ToS's is how I determine what's needed to be blocked. https://www.robtex.com/ is what I use to make sure I'm not blocking something I shouldn't.
Editing ones HOSTS file is becoming quite an exercise.

Re:This beats the HELL out of any browser addon
Huge, but useful post. I'd like to add to the list the "Hostsman" application, which I use on my MS Win machines for many years already:
http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman
It'll automatically take care of updates for your hosts file. -
I've written such a program, as have others
"All you have to do now is automate the process of updating it. You could have some sort of program that acted both as a client and a server..." - by maxume (22995) on Wednesday December 01, @09:23AM (#34403684)
Examples of what you're asking for have been done (I've done one myself even), but here are some "examples thereof":
HOSTSMAN:
http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman
HOSTESS:
http://www.raymarron.com/hostess/
I am FAIRLY sure those do "remote updates", but check to be sure...
(and, there ARE others too, but that's what I came up with on "short-notice" - I *think* mvps.org possibly even has one with the HOSTS file they distribute)
OR
You can just go to these sites & get current copies:
https://zeustracker.abuse.ch/blocklist.php?download=hostfile
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
http://hostsfile.org/hosts.html
http://hostsfile.mine.nu/downloads/
http://hosts-file.net/?s=DownloadTo name a few reputable & reliable + regularly updated models of HOSTS files (the program I wrote consolidates them all, removes duplicates, alphabetizes the entries, + changes the "blocking IP Address" format from 127.0.0.1 (slowest & largest), to 0.0.0.0 (next slowest & largest) to 0 (not compatible w/ all OS' anymore, but was until Windows VISTA & still is on 2000/XP/Server 2003) & lastly "Trims" them so that no trailing bloating blanks remain (which is what happens in DB engines like Access since no VARCHAR type is present in Access, as it is in mySQL, SQLServer, Oracle, DB2 etc./et al where you can use SELECT * DISTINCT / ORDER BY type queries to do the same as far as removing duplicates, sorts, etc.)
APK
P.S.=> Mine's for personal use (I didn't build in the HTTPGET functionality into it, because I simply email my HOSTS file (a composite of all others + 30,000 or so adbanner blocks I put into it myself) to others that request it, & other programs like that already exist (but they don't do quite as much as mine does otherwise per the list of its functions I put into it above))... apk

Re:HOSTS file and noscript
"One link is for, what at the moment, is the latest version of the modified hosts file and the other link is to the installation instructions and general information."
Why not just use "Hosts Man"?
-
Re:Non-Tech Percent of Web Traffic from Chrome
Use hostsman in windows to block ads without having to use adblock. still no gestures support, but it makes it a lot more usable, imo and with the improved javascript engine, may be worth using day to day.
:)
